Freeview reception at IP2 0LF

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Having problems with signal break up. Our TVs have been fine until a few months ago when we started getting channels breaking up at night, but they would be ok during the day - specifically channel 17 really and channels in that block. Had a tv guy over who fitted a new aerial on a taller pole, but still seems a problem. Last night couldn't get anything even bbc1. On the tv it says we have signal but the quality bounces up and down. We are in Redditch tuned to Sutton Coldfield.

Roger Barsby:

As there are several transmitters (some nearer) that you might receive in your locale, although Sutton Coldfield is predicted to be far the strongest, it may be worth checking in your TV's tuning section that you are tuned to the correct UHF channels for Sutton Coldfield.
All the multiplexes are C43, C46, C40, C42, C45, & C39 that's in the order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, & ArqB/COM6. (C means UHF channel).

For which TV channels - LCNs - are on which multiplex, see
Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview

IF you retuned at any time when you had no signal or badly pixellated pictures you may have got tuned to another transmitter received off side-lobes of the aerial!
It's NEVER recommended to retune if you were correctly tuned when you have no signal or badly pixellated pictures - you cannot tune to a signal that's not there or can't be decoded.

You MIGHT get the Local L-BRM multiplex on C48 but I suspect it will be very variable to poor, if at all.

Could you post the Signal Strength and Quality figures for each multiplex's UHF channel which might help identify possible causes of the problem.

As detailed on the Sutton Coldfield transmitter page, it has been on Planned Engineering for several weeks which won't be helping in your situation as your local terrain doesn't give you clear line-of-sight to Sutton Coldfield, so the taller pole for your new aerial may be of some help.
I hope that was a Group K aerial that was fitted as there are a number of mobile phone masts near you which may be new or have been upgraded to use 700MHz and you could be getting interference.
I hope that installer got out his spectrum analyser to check!

You should have received a postcard - https://restoretv.uk/post…ure/
We know many cases that haven't but should have. If you haven't got a 700MHz (5G) Filter get in touch with RestoreTV to request a Free one.

Hi
Can I use a loft aerial in Church Village to get full Freeview channels from a main mast in Wenvoe?
If so what aerial type?

Lewis:

Despite the fact that there is a huge hill in the way between you and Wenvoe starting about 1/2 mile from you with a large peak at around 2 miles out, nevertheless the Freeview & BBC's predictors suggest you should get a good signal from Wenvoe so it would be worth a go.

You'd need a high gain Group K aerial, with its rods horizontal pointing at compass bearing 170 degrees (10 degrees E of due S).

Something like https://www.blake-uk.com/56-element-log-periodic-group-k-aerial-new-double-element-design.html may do the job.

If you already have a Group K or B aerial give it a go. If it's not high gain you may get weak signals.
The advantage of the Group K is 1) Very important - it will give you a great deal of protection from possible mobile mast interference from new/upgraded phone masts & 2) should you get unreliable signals from Wenvoe you can use it to receive one of the two local relays you should be able to receive. (Group B is no good for the relays).
