You need a "wideband" aerial rather than a high gain one (see all about aerials). Also, if you use a signal booster in the setup, this can cause problems with digital signals.

Can I suggest that you try the following:

1. Check that all the connectors are OK, in particular that there are no stray wires and that both the outer shield and inner wire are connected;

2. If you are using any signal boosters, turn them off;

3. Check to see if you have anything like a VCR connected via a UHF fly lead - sometimes these can changed to use channels such as 68.

4. If you have a wideband aerial, if you can try raising it up an additional metre;

Hi, we have the same problem as Mark Frost above. We previously had all the channels we could wish for, but now have only a handful of bbc channels with no obvious reason. We previously moved our tv and box across the room, and had to get a booster to get all our channels back. However, in the last week or so, all our channels except the bbc ones have disappeared. A number of re-tunes only result in either 10 or 29 channels, all BBC tv or radio channels.
We are using a Humax PVR 9300, and are in the NG7 postcode. Any ideas?

PeteD: Reception on the part of the post code given could be from either Nottingham / Waltham or Sutton Coldfield, so where is your aerial pointing at?

I feel that your best bet would be to reset your box and manually tune in the channels required, as most people who can receive from more that one source usually experiences the problem of the EPG listings displayed comprising of programmes picked up from different transmitters.

If you come back with your aerial direction I can then provide the channels numbers to enter.

frank pearce: You are indicated as being able to receive signals from either Sandy Heath, Crystal Palace or Hemel Hempstead, them all showing roughly the same indication although in real life this might be quite different.

Don't be taken in too much by the channel numbers received by your neighbour, as many of these can be duplicates up in the 800 ranges that were captured during any re-scans that might have been made, but still add to the total number of received channels.

You should find out what station your neighbour is actually receiving from, if they do not know then the way to tell is to carry out a signal check whilst on BBC1 noting the channel number shown along with the signal strength, if Sandy it will be Ch27 / Hemel Ch56 / Crystal Palace Ch25.

Northampton

My Son is at university of Northampton Halls of residence. he moved from the third floor in one part of the halls to the ground floor on the other side. He now gets no signal whatsoever! It is within the Sandy Heath coverage area but not in near enough Dallington. The University does not supply any Tv connections So have to rely on portable aerial. Tried all positions with teh aerial, no luck.

Bipin: What direction is the window facing? To have any chance of reception the aerial will most likely need to point through the window, as such it is also more likely to pick up signals from whichever transmitter is in that particular direction. Sandy Heath is E to SE. Additionally the PSB1 and PSB2 muxes could possibly be available from Waltham (N), Sutton Coldfield W to NW or Oxford (SSW). If possible manually enter the frequency for whichever transmitter is being searched for, then adjust the aerial position to obtain a usable signal quality before storing the channels. It might otherwise be necessary to take the TV to a higher point in the building in order to store the channels, after which experimentation with the aerial in his room can take place.
