My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I've now been 'banned' from the Sony Community website! All I did was put a few posts on about the way that Sony have handled this matter, ie just seem to be ignoring it until Monday when presumably they will be back at work, ready to deal with the backlog of calls! I've never joined a forum before - the shame of being banned on my first day! The sad thing is that maybe there are hundreds of people sweating away at Sony trying to deal with it, but why can't they just tell us what is happening? That's all we want to know. They are supposed to be in the communication business, and it feels like they couldn't care less right now. As every hour goes by, they are losing customers' loyalty. Do something, Sony - speak to us!

Hi S Jones.... do you have a Twitter... try #SonyFixYourFreeviewRecorders @SonyUK the more people who do this the more likely they'll do something. I've already written a report to the www.radioandtvhelp.co.uk and BBC Watchdog so if they don't sort something out pretty sharp then they're going to have them on their hands and they ain't gonna like that!!

My sony hxd870 has also stopped working since yesterday. Can find all the channels but not display them, it is unable to check the signal and during automatic updates it crashes. With so many sony owners having this problem on the same day, it seems logical that it must a signal issue. However, when I tell my sony I am in France then it works... could this help you locate where the problem is?

AlphaMom: This is an issue known to Sony.
As a temporary workaround, run Easy Setup but change the Country setting to France. This should restore the set, albeit with an empty EPG.

The 4G towers have been put up in N.Ireland these have the potential to cause interference with some Freeview reception

I live in Arrochar, Argyll & Bute G83 7AH and can see the TV transmitter across the loch, but the last few days have been very frustrating with being unable to watch a programme on any channel and believe me we don't have many, without the screen going blank every few seconds and stating 'no signal'.

I have a Sony hxd995 stopped working Friday night. thought it had broken had it in bits Saturday morning to check connections and tuner circuit board solder joints. after assembly was the same. so used the analogue tuner to hook up a freeview box so i could record to hard drive. however this morning Sunday 22nd plugged the aerial back into digital feed and is now working perfect. have noticed on set up screen some new options that wasn't there previously. this must have been a software update that happened during the night. hope everyone else gets there's sorted.

EPG Back and working again. Both my Sony Recorders have been retuned and are working correctly. Whilst setting up a programme to record I pressed the guide button and was surprized to see the programme's have reappeared this was whilst they were tuned to France. So I decided to retune them to UK location and found that every think was back to normal
