To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

hi,
I can get 4 channels through just aerial to Tv (analogue) however when i plug my freeview box and did a scan I can't get any channels at all. tried plugging aerial directly to freeview box did a scan again no channels. Swapped freeview box as well and tried again still nothing. I can't understand how I can get channels through aerial to tv but not with freeview surely if it was the aerial it wouldnt have brought any channels. when i checked the signal strength on freeview it was about 2%-5% for most channels. HELP PLEASE

Transmitter Waltham, aerial on roof. Ever since the last Freeview retune we are having probs recording BBC1 programs in the evening (Waterloo Rd, The Apprentice both fail to record) and when selecting the prog and pressing the record button no red 'R'is displayed. In the recording list it just says BBC1 instead of the program name! No prob recording BBC 1 progs during the day or other channels in the evening. Have tried factory resets of my Topfield PVR etc. etc.

Jim Hughes: Are you sure that you have channels from Waltham on C49 stored in the "normal" positions for BBC1 etc. It is possible that you are receiving BBC1 from Sandy Heath on C27 in addition to the Waltham option, in which case BBC1 East Midlands could be stored in the 800s of the channel list. The Digital UK postcode checker shows Belmont, Sandy Heath and Waltham all give good reception of BBC channels at your location. As Sandy Heath is almost directly opposite Waltham from your location this is the most likely additional option to be found.

Hi,

Can anyone help?!

Since buying a new (Toshiba) HD freeview recorder I can no longer receive ITV4 or Film4. I have cleared the channels and rescanned, no luck.

It doesn't seem to be a reception issue though, because if I plug the aerial back into the TV and use its built-in tuner instead, I receive ITV4 and Film4 just fine!

Any thoughts anyone?! (My scanner is the Guildford one, if it helps, which is more or less in view from my house).

Many thanks

James

Tuners differ from machine to machine- some lower quality tuners are used which when accompanied with an aerial that is shared between other digital products result in signal degradation which in turn causes certain products and not others to have missing channels/whole multiplexes in some cases, and pixelation.

Solution- Use additional high quality signal booster on connection or use individual aerial on said device having issues and re-tune.

James: Your new Toshiba recorder might not be working correctly - a few brand new TVs or digiboxes are insensitive, typically on the higher frequency channels. MUX D at Guildford is the highest frequency (UHF channel 54), so it looks like a duff box to me.
If you take it back, make sure you aren't fobbed off by being shown it working on a massive signal - as Dale says, you could make it work with an amplifier, but you shouldn't need to.
My suggestion is to get a replacement.

Aerial is on the roof, not sure if it is picking up Fenton or Sutton Coldfield,a Pioneer Tv with built in Freeview.We have all analogue channels no probs , but one day we have all Freeview channels but the next we lose ITV , Channel 4 and Channel 5.just done Auto tune and they are not there...they were there yesterday and the day before , but not the day before that...it is very confusing.

Barbara Ward: You are only 3 miles away from Fenton and so could possibly be on the verges of receiving too strong a signal, especially when using a roof mounted aerial, as this can cause intermittent blocking of reception as the signal levels rise and fall slightly during a day.

To check what transmitter you are receiving from go into the tuning menu whilst on BBC1, if you see Ch34 its Fenton, whereas if its Ch41 then it's Sutton Coldfield.

Another way being, if when looking at the aerial you see the elements are mounted vertically then that's another indication that its Fenton, as Sutton Coldfield uses horizontal polarisation.

If you use any form of booster try removing it, as if an overly strong signal is the cause of the problem then that in most cases will cure it, if no booster is used trying a simple attenuator in line with the aerial socket has the same effect.

Of course this instruction is "only" applicable if it is Fenton that you are receiving from, but should signal blocking be the case then try a manual scan on Ch44 first as a test, as ITV1, Ch5 etc are on that frequency from Sutton Coldfield. (30 miles away).

Hi. Until the retune in 6/7/11 I have been able to access EPG for all channels. Since then I can watch all channels but am missing EPG for BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC News, 301. I have rescanned to no avail. My aerial position hasn't changed and is on the roof. Any suggestions? Is this a common issue for others.

Thank you for your support.

Jonathan

Jonathan Land: If not already done so, I would suggest that you should carry out another scan just in case any glitches occurred with the signal during the process, these not necessarily being at your end.

Also, when you re-scanned your device was it carried this out as a complete reset? as totally eradicating anything stored is essential for success with this problem.

You should unplug the aerial lead to the box and follow this by carrying out a complete scan without it being connected, obviously nothing will be received but the memory will be blanked in the process, then reconnect the aerial and finally carry out another scan.

Assuming its Sudbury you are receiving from, I will point out that Mux 2 (Ch68/56) is showing as being "very" variable up until the 20th of this month when switchover stage 2 occurs.
