The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

If only it was that easy !! Many thanks for trying but we appear to have drawn a blank. Will have to get pros out, went just after switchover but presume that's not anything as I did retune and it was fine

Mike: I can only assume that there is possibly a physical problem with the gaining of access to the loft? but when reception has failed on all of your TV's located in various positions then you have to start with the common factor that links them all, namely the powered splitter, because even although it could be a faulty connection on your aerial (which you say is indoors) and that could well be responsible, but the powered splitter is the prime suspect as its not by any means that unusual for the internal power supply to fail on these devices as they generally run on the warm side.

Sorry, probably a bit of a misunderstanding, I bought the female and tested all wires and still no signal.

Mike: Thanks for the clarification, although whilst you were up there did you not manage to check where the coax joins into the aerial?

Of course your HP15 location is surrounded by a series of low powered relay stations suggesting that reception problems exist in your area albeit the high powered Crystal Palace transmitter is located at 32 miles on a bearing of 119 degrees, but though its possible that you actually do require a booster to keep your signal above the reception threshold or nothing will be seen, and so if you have left the main aerial coupled into one of the room feeds, on the TV in the room that the feed is linked in to you should go into the TV's tuning menu / manual tune and enter Ch23 (BBC from Crystal Palace) then even without scanning on most equipment (not all though) as soon as the channel number is entered the strength of the signal received will be indicated.

Maybe, if not too inconvenient, you could try this and give an update, because if a signal is seen indicated then a new booster could solve your problem, advice given on this dependant on results.

We've lost all channels on all of our TVs except for one, and that one couldn't get ITV this morning! I live in CT66JZ area (on top of a hill!!) and we have had almost constant trouble since the advent of digital. I use a 12V masthead amp that I recently replaced (yet again) with one from Maplin's, and things improved, but in the last week we're back to no DTV, and of course now the analogue signal has been switched off. The inlaws in the same area have trouble too and they are using a satellite dish. It's so annoying, having to take time off to get the aerial bloke out, and expensive too.

I retuned my tv after the digital switchover and it has been working fine until we had a powercut the other night.

Since this powercut we have no channels and if I retune it is not picking anything up at all. What should I do?

We live in a small flat complex (4 apartments) and everyone else uses sky so dont have a problem. The tv is an lcd with built in freeview and is connected to the main arial input in the flat.

Any help is much appreciated!

irene: When the aerial specialist stated that there is nothing wrong with either your aerial or TV, then did he give any possible explanation for your problem?

On checking I see you are indicated as being able (in theory) to receive signals from a few stations, so did he check to make sure that your TV or box was tuned to the correct one? and which would appear to be Pontop Pike, although if an auto tune was carried out there is a great possibility that some of the alternative stations would have been picked up and stored, as Pontop Pike transmits on high channel numbers, and TV's and boxes scan from low numbers upwards.

The alternative stations referred to being Fenham, Bilsdale and Sunderland.

Maybe you could give an update on this and also the model of TV that you use.

Aime: Are you in effect stating that the aerial being used is communal to the four apartments? because if it is then that inclined to indicate a problem with the apartments aerial distribution amplifier system, as in your location Bilsdale would appear to be the only station that you can receive, but though according to the predictor at a good strength.

It would also be of assistance to know the model of TV being used.

Iain: If your in laws are having a problem and yet they are using a satellite dish then their problem, and without knowledge of what it is, is not in any way related to yours, as there is no connection whatsoever between the two systems.

As far as your mast head amp problem is concerned did this fail after some thundery type weather? as high levels of static rain is about the only thing that can knock these amplifiers out, and of course if you are using a roof aerial and as you have said, are located on top of a hill then that's the recipe for this type of problem.

On looking at the reception predictions for your location I see that only the PSB muxes are indicated as providing good reception, and with these being from either Sudbury (Rouncefall), Crystal Palace or Dover, and so it depends on where your aerial might be directed towards?
