From Wikipedia: The channel's annual budget for 2011/12 is 1,166.6 million.3 Along with the BBC's other domestic television stations, and many European broadcasters and some in Asia, it is funded principally by the television licence fee, and therefore shows uninterrupted programming with no commercial advertising at any time. It is currently the most watched television channel in the United Kingdom, ahead of its traditional rival for ratings leadership, ITV1. This system used a vertically-scanned image of 30 lines just enough resolution for a close-up of one person, and with a bandwidth low enough to use existing radio transmitters. - en.wikipedia.org en.wikipedia.org link icon read more about BBC One HD on wikipedia (summary by Clipped).

Chan-King: Hi. Only in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland is the "local" news on the HD channel, in England viewers will normally tune to the SD version of the channel. The BBC does not have the money to expand the BBC One HD service because the TV Licence has been frozen.

I suddenly have intermittent break up or 'service not working' on HD channels - SD channels seem fine. Last night all were fine. Am in Dundee so reception is from Angus transmitter. Is there a transmitter problem tonight?

I'm afraid I no longer see BBC News as a true news channel; it has become a magazine programme covering a wide diversity of interests with varying degrees of impartiality/bias, very little of which can actually be called World News. This applies particularly between 7am and 9am daily. Any genuine news is given short shrift in favour of the next "guest" interviewee.

IAN: There is currently a transmitter engineering notice for Black Hill warning of possible weak signal. Do not retune as this may cause you to loose channels.

I'm trying to tune HD channels from Claife Heights transmitter (Windermere area). Other channels seem OK, but neither of my TV sets can receive channels 101 to 104 (one set reports 'no signal'). Any suggestions please?

Stuart: Have you received the HD channels on the same TVs in the past? If not, is there a Freeview HD logo on them anywhere? Many TVs are sold as HD ready, however this isn't enough as these sets don't usually have a tuner capable of decoding the DVB-T2 transmissions used to broadcast HD channels on Freeview.

Stuart:

The Windermere transmitter does not provide any HD services at all at this time. See Which Freeview channels does the Windermere transmitter broadcast? for details of what signals this Freeview Lite transmitter provides.

MikeP: Windemere broadcasts the PSB3 mux containing BBC1 HD, BBC2 HD, ITV HD, Channel 4 HD, Channel 5 HD & CBBC HD as do all Freeview lite relays (and have done since the end of digital switchover).
