Steven Seeds: Hi, Steven. BBC4HD was temporarily moved from the COM7 multiplex to the PSB3 multiplex for the duration of the Summer Olympic Games Competition, but has now returned to the COM 7 multiplex. It is worth carrying out a re-tune on any of the HD receiving devices that are in your possession that haven't been retuned since the Olympics finished so that all your HD receivers have up-to-date channel lists.

John : Hi, John. Brighton is not a 'major city'. It only gained city status in 2000 and ranks 42nd in the UK. if you care to watch BBC Three, you can watch it online and what have you got against CBBC and CBeebies, since we were all children once? Interested in your reply, Richard, Norwich.

Hi Richard. By definition I guess one's home city is 'major' LOL. But we do have two universities and two hospitals.
Apart from the transmitter being, I'm told, unable to deliver the extra channels it isn't actually able to deliver SD DTV to some areas of the town because of the very hilly nature here.
So most folks pay for SKY (or at least a dish for FREESAT) or Cable. Blocks of flats in the town from my experience are either tied in to SKY or VIRGIN and once you've moved in and find your FREEVIEW doesn't work you don't have a whole lot of choice.

Oh, and before I forget, I fully believe that all TV for ALL age groups should be at the best possible quality!

John : I'm wondering if the Light transmitter has more to do with geography than population or because its only been a 'city' for 16 years.
Try putting your postcode into the site, and use the terrain button to see what the signal paths are. As you said the 'very hilly nature' makes it difficult to get a signal at all. I'm betting thats why you have a Light transmitter, and because its a Light transmitter, it hasn't currently got the full range of channels, including BBC4 HD.
Thats not the BBC's fault - its the hills, and being a light transmitter, it just possibly get that extra mux in. Yes, Freesat would be a good solution.

Bill McDonald: It would be nice if we actually had a transmitter that served our 'town' properly, we don't get a good signal from either Mendip or Stockland Hill, and I believe some poor sods to the east of Yeovil actually use Rowridge. Generally what I would class as a mess.

Anyone know why CH31 seems to have disappeared from the Winter Hill signal?
As of yesterday.
Thanks.

Steve:
It's still being transmitted! You may be being affected by the tropospheric ducting phenomenon affecting may [parts of the UK at present. Do NOT retune your equipment.
