Barbara Massey: Although Sacriston is indicated as being covered by the Pontop Pike transmitter, it all depends on exactly where you reside within the area, as reception can be a bit on the "iffy" side to the North and West of the B6312 due to the area being on the verges of a dead spot for reception.

However, if you are able to receive Viva (57) or Talking pictures (81) then you are receiving COM7 the multiplex now used by CBS Drama, therefore try updating your EPG listings by carrying out a retune "after" having removed the aerial connector from your TV, this action blanking out everything stored in the tuners memory system, check by witnessing "no signal" on any attempt to select a channel, finally, reconnect the aerial and carry out a second retune to re-load the channels back into the tuner.

If though on the other hand you are unable to view 57 or 81? then your problem is either down to your TV being of the HD ready variety (i.e: unable to view BBC 101 / 102 etc) or COM7 is not being received.

Further assistance dependant on outcome.

Anthony Ingham: CBS Drama has been moved from COM6 (SD) to COM7, this latter Mux (along with COM8) being one of the newer additional Freeview HD transmitters mostly associated with main stations covering larger areas of the population, Kilvey Hill unfortunately not being one of them, it operating with the standard six multiplex line up.

Donna Glover: most households in the Stannington area are served by the transmitter at Crosspool, alternatively they could be using Belmont or Emley Moor. All three masts carry the COM7 multiplex, the new home of CBS drama which should appear on channel 71 in the epg if your receiver is suitable for reception of this mux. Such receivers must support DVB-T2 (Freeview HD) transmissions. Receivers sold as HD-ready, but fitted with standard Freeview tuners will be unable to receive COM7 and any future reconfigured muxes unless they are connected to a Freeview HD tuner.

john gray: The fact of you having previously viewed this programme means that your aerial is either pointing towards Sandy Heath or Crystal Palace, and not your local Luton multiplex which does not have COM6 or COM7, CBS Drama having been moved onto COM7 HD from COM6.

As far as an HD TV is concerned, if you are able to view 101/102 etc then you do indeed have a full HD receiver and not an HD ready type which is only SD. If that said applies, then the problem could be that you are not actually receiving COM7 (also unable to view Talking Pictures 81) as COM7 is much lower powered than that of COM6, i.e: Sandy COM6 170Kw / COM7 49.5Kw - Crystal Palace COM6 200Kw / COM7 43Kw.

Further advice dependant on findings.

j dakin : CBS Drama was moved from the SD (standard definition) COM6 transmitter onto COM7 which is HD.

As reception from Emley Moor's COM7 transmitter is indicated as being excellent in your area, the most likely reason for your problem is that your TV is of the "HD ready" variety and not full HD, the former being fitted with a standard DVB-T tuner and not DVB-T2 which is necessary to receive HD transmissions.

A good test being if you are able to view EPG57 Viva, or EPG81 Talking Pictures?, both programmes "only" viewable via a DVB-T2 HD tuner.

Simon Balfre: CBS Drama was moved onto the COM7 HD transmitter from having previously been carried on the standard definition multiplex called COM6. If you receive Freeview from the Crystal Palace transmitter and yet are unable to view EPG71, then your TV is likely to be of the the "HD ready" variety and not a "full HD" spec device fitted with DVB-T2 tuner, this type of tuner being necessary to view HD transmissions.

An easy way to test if your receiver is of the full HD variety or not is by trying to view (101) BBC HD, if you are unable to? then your TV is of the HD ready variety, likewise not fitted with an HD tuner.

I have an HD ready TV, so when my two most watched channels went to HD #108 and 71 (COM7), I got hold of an usb DVB-T2 tuner to at least be able to watch these two channels on the computer. However, whether I lift all regions or just Waltham/Nottingham (I live in Nottingham), #108 doesn't show up, but it appears as thought #71 is playing but no video. If someone is going to suggest getting a Freeview HD set top box cheaply, please advise if there is one that is DVB-T2, and dual HD, so I can watch and record simultaneously.

I'm on Waltham, and I'm certainly getting 108 and CBS Drama, so check your signal strength.

derek: On the assumption that you receive Freeview from Crystal Palace, if you can view Talking Pictures (81) but not CBS Drama (71) then your EPG listings require updating.

You can achieve this in two ways, the first being to carry out a manufacturers reset on your box followed by an auto-tune, this procedure changing any personal preference settings back to their original default values.

The second method being to carry out retune on your box *after* having first of all removed the aerial connector, this action purely deleting everything stored on the tuners memory, reconnecting the aerial on completion of same followed by a normal auto-tune.

By the way, if you are unable to view Talking Pictures (81) then for some reason or another you are not receiving the COM7 HD multiplex, a post code being required to enable a check to be carried on your reception possibilities.

Derek: Hi Derek in Epping Green. I am very sorry that you are currently unable to view CBS Drama, which I believe, should be on Channel 71 on your Electronic programme Guide (EPG). If this channel is not listed in your EPG, then your Freeview HD set-top box has not registered it, so you will need to carry out a re-tune on the box. Alternative ways of carrying this out have been suggested in the posting on this site by jb38 at 6:10 p.m. I totally concur with what jb38 says and would recommend that you follow his professional, reliable instructions! John dakin: Hi, John. in order to receive CBS Drama now, you need to have two things: (1) a transmitter that transmits the COM7 multiplex (group of channels) to the aerial on your home and (2) a Freeview HD (high definition) set top box or an HD television set. It is not possible to recive CBS Drama if your local transmitter doesn't transmit the COM7 group of channels and quite a few transmitters don't. CBS Drama is no longer available for people to watch who have standard definition (SD) Freeview televisions or set -top boxes. Hope this answers your question, Richard, Norwich.

J T Webster: CBS drama (71) along with other programmes such as Talking Pictures (81) / Vintage TV (82) are transmitted on a multiplex called COM7, if you are able to receive BBC HD (101) as well as the two latter mentioned and yet not (71), delete everything stored in the tuner by carrying out a retune on your box *after* having first removed the aerial connector, reconnecting the aerial on completion of followed by a second retune to reload all programmes available back into the tuner.

If though BBC HD (101) is receivable by not either of the two mentioned, then for some reason or another you are not receiving COM7, and although being only 4 miles away from the transmitter its noticed that part of the Barry area is indicated as being a reception dead spot, likely to result in a low signal level being received as COM7 is a lower powered transmitter, therefore, in order to be able to assess your reception possibilities a post code (or that of a nearby shop/ post office) will be required.

J T Webster: Hi Jay Tee. a good check would be to see whether you can receive any other channels that are on multiplex 'COM 7'. See if you can get anything on channels numbered: 77 (Rishtey Europe), 78 (5USA+1) and 81 (Talking Pictures TV). If you can, then you ought to be able to get CBS Drama on 71. If you wish and your receiver allows you to, you could do a manual tune just for COM7. To do that, you need to know thatCOM7 is transmitted on UHF channel number 31 from Wenvoe at a frequency of 554 MHz, and then manually tune into that channel. In that manner, you will pick up everything on COM 7 that is available at your location, including, hopefully, CBS Drama. Remember that COM 7 is transmitted at a slightly lower power than the other multiplexes, which could be the reason for your inability to receive all of the channels on that particular multiplex. J T Webster: Thanks for the update re 101etc, however the fact of being able to receive same but not programmes on COM7 is inclined to give rise to suspicions that your box might possibly be one of the models unable to receive more than one HD multiplex without a manufacturers software update, this having been an issue with a number of models when COM7 first came into operation.

The way to test if it is or not is by deleting everything stored in the tuner, done by carrying out a retune "after" having removed the aerial connector, reconnecting the aerial on completion of and checking that no signal is received, which there shouldn't be.

The next stage is achieved by going into the tuning menu, selecting "manual" tune followed by entering then scanning C31(554.0Mhz). If this populates the EPG listings then your box is one of the models referred to, although it wouldn't go amiss to try carrying out a second manual tune (without deleting anything) on C47 (682.0Mhz), this being the main BBC101 / ITV HD multiplex.

Further assistance dependant on results, although it would be of assistance to know the make and model number of the box in question.

J T Webster: Unfortunately my suspicions were correct, insomuch that your DVB680 is one of the models unable to receive / store more than one HD multiplex at a time unless the software is updated, the problem with said update being that it came out back in April 2014 but "not" as an OA (over air) download, that is via the aerial whilst the box is tuned to BBC1, meaning that it has to be downloaded from the PC into a memory stick, although I will have a check to find out whether there has been an OA download or not, as there's an element of iffiness about the situation.

However, in the meantime you should try the manual tune procedure as mentioned in my previous reply, if its successful, then the remaining Mux channels (minus BBC/ITVHD) could be loaded in one at a time, as this would enable you to view programmes on COM7 albeit at the expense of BBC and ITV HD reception.

Channels in question being : 41 (BBC1) - 44 (ITV1) - 42 (ITV3 etc) - 45 (Pick TV etc) - 39 (Yesterday etc) - 51 (Local). By the way auto-tuning cannot be used.

However, the undermentioned link explains the procedure used to update the box, but which many could be excused for thinking that the procedure is more bother than its worth.

I am a confused elderly lady and I hope you can help me by explaining why I can no longer view my favourite films on CBS Drama after 11pm. I have been viewing this channel after 11pm since last March but all of a sudden it goes off air at 11pm with the notice on screen to "Load MHEG-5". Radio Times has for the last month been printing the usual films for this slot from 11pm to 5am (Freeview 71) even tho they are not being shown. RT says they can only print what the channel gives them. I rang a number for CBS Drama who seem to know nothing about it. Strange as their advertisers should be unhappy that no-one can see their expensive advertisements. They could not tell me if they had moved these late night programs to another channel. Odd. As you deal with reception is there a way of loading MHEG-5 whatever that is or should I be looking for another type of television, in which case what would that be called? I note that channel 93 is also affected by this cut off point. So are they are no longer "Freeview" channels after 11pm.? Any help, even to say nothing I can do, will be gratefully received.

Miss Jo Andrew: Could you start by giving your postcode, and which local news you get - we dont know where you are in relation to the transmitter or what transmitter that is. It could be that you've accidently tuned into another transmitter.

MHEG-5 is a format for interactive TV - have you pressed something on the remote which might bring that up?

Sharon jessop: Do you have 4Music on 18 and Yesterday on 19? If those are working, retune and CBS Drama should appear on 71. Otherwise, please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted signal strength etc.

Sally H: Have you lost any other channels? We need a full postcode in order to see whether you might be able to receive any other transmitters (the coverage checkers do not work on partial postcodes or place names).

Sally H:

CBS Drama is on the ArqB multiplex which is on UHF39+ at Wenvoe. As StevensOnln1 says a full postcode is needed to see what the Digital UK checker gives for predicted reception at your location.
