We have four tvs in our house, two Panasonics and two Samsungs. We are in Surrey and use Crystal Palace transmitter. The two Samsungs and one of the Panasonics have retuned perfectly well, but we have lost channels 12 and 15 on the other Panasonic, despite repeated retunes. The fact that we get the channels on the other tvs suggest that the problem lies with the Panasonic tv, a TH-37PE30, but other comments on this site have also had problems with these two channels, so that suggests a wider problem. Typically there is a manual tuning mode on the tv for analogue, but not digital. Any ideas? Our Panasonic recorder retuned ok, so we can watch those channels through the AV function, but that's a pain.

I have lost Film4 and ITV4 on freebies. My. TV is a Panasonic. TX _L42U3B. I have eliminated cable problems within my flat. I receive UHF change.21,22,24,25,27 ok. I believe Film4 is on channel 33. Manual tuning picks up nothing. I have 3 other devices with freeview and the problem is with all, even after isolating each independently. My postcode is PO21 2RJ. Any help will be gratefully received.

Mike James,Bognor Regis.Film 4 is on the ArqB multiplex from Rowridge transmitter on frequency/channel 28.Try again by manually scanning if you have this option as such for frequency/channel 28 it should come in.

Mike James. Is the aerial communal by the way,if it is check with other neighbours if they too have this same problem you are experiencing on ArqB on frequency 28 from Rowridge. If the aerial is at fault then the landlord/landlady should rectify this problem as such.
Just out of interest if the aerial is communal is it polarised horizontally or vertically and is it also a group A aerial (tipped red) or a group W wideband aerial (tipped black) ? If the aerial is communal and tipped black denoting a group W wideband then it is the wrong aerial in a poor reception/marginal area within Rowridge itself.Group W wideband antennas on an all group A transmitter such as Rowridge within a poor/marginal reception area do give inferior performance generally as such.

Mike James: It's probably best to have the aerial switched to vertical.

There are two reasons:

1. The Commercial multiplexes are stronger vertically that horizontally, whereas the Public Service channels (BBC, ITV1, C4, C5 etc) are the same with both polarisations.

2. Other transmitters use the same channels as the Rowridge Commercial multiplexes, notably Crystal Palace which is in the opposite direction and therefore could be being picked up off the back of the aerial. Crystal Palace is horizontal only, so switching to vertical should help with the "rejection" of its (probably weak) signals.

It is a communal aerial and I must check with neighbours but the whole installation was fitted ready for digital switch over 1.5years ago by a reputable company, so I hope the correct aerial was used. Polarization could be another issue. I have to investigate both further. Thanks Mark and Dave,I'll be in touch.

Mike James,Bognor Regis. If the correct aerial is used as you mentioned, check tomorrow during daylight hours obviously, the colour of the communal aerial's tips or the end that points to the transmitter and the opposite end that points away from it.If the tips are coloured red then it is a group A aerial and at your location the right aerial to use if pointed directly at Rowridge which is an all group A transmitter. If the tips however are coloured black then it is a group W wideband aerial and at your location the wrong aerial to use within a poor/marginal reception area within Rowridge itself. Then again if the colour of the aerial's tips are coloured grey then it is a group K aerial which is a semi-wideband aerial optimised for the lower/middle frequency bands and although not really recommended for use on an all group A mast in a poor/marginal area, they can be used as an alternative to a group A aerial preferably between 20-40 miles from abode to mast instead of using group W wideband aerials which are well known to perform rather badly on group A frequencies especially the lowest frequencies (21-25 more so) on an all group A transmitter like Rowridge in a poor/marginal area.

I can't see the aerial on the roof. Had a good look. Most other houses have visible aerials. I have asked the agent to find out from the landlord the installing company and hopefully discover the aerial type and polarization.
