From Wikipedia: The ITV1 brand was introduced by Carlton and Granada in 2001, alongside the regional identities of their eleven regional companies. However in line with other terrestrial channels, ITV1's audience share has fallen in the era of multi-channel television. ITV existed in a region-heavy form from its inception to the 2000s, although the switch was gradual. - en.wikipedia.org read more about ITV 1 (SD) on wikipedia (summary by Clipped).

There are over 1100+ TV transmitters in the UK, some have occasional faults, quite a few will be have Planned Engineering which can see signals temporarily on lower power or briefly interrupted.
To be able to advise, we need a full postcode to see what your predicted reception might be and which transmitter(s) you may/should be receiving.

Hello. I have been having trouble getting ITV along with a few other channels on my freeview tv for weeks now, I spoke to someone at freeview who was rude and eventually told me that the winter Hill transmitter was undergoing repairs, having looked now it seems winter Hill is working fine yet I still don't have all the channels. My postcode is bb7 1nl. Thank you.

Hi. I'm frankly not surprised, Freeview can be quite useless at times and no help!
Winter Hill hasn't been listed for Planned Engineering for some considerable time and records of any faults a while ago will be virtually impossible to find. So what caused your problem will be impossible to say. There has been several occasions in recent time where certain weather conditions may have resulted in interference from more distant transmitters to some multiplexes.
In normal circumstances you should get excellent reception of all the main multiplexes from Winter Hill, but in the wrong circumstances you might also get reception of a relay transmitter that''a quite close to you albeit with different aerial polarisation (vertical) instead of horizontal like Winter Hill, as it's in a almost identical direction from your locale, or you might have got tuned to a more distant transmitter whose signals have now disappeared as weather conditions changed.
If you retuned when you had no signal or badly pixellated signals whether it be due to a transmitter fault, Planned Engineering or weather conditions, any of the previously mentioned could happen. If your set has an auto-retune function for no signal, disable it if you can, it's more trouble than it's worth.
Check that your aerial is still pointing in the correct direction - bearing 197 degrees, that's about 5 degrees S of SSW (compare with neighbours if need be), with the rods (or squashed Xs) horizontal.
Your best bet will be to try a retune as follows - first unplug the aerial and in your TV tuning section carry out a full automatic retune, this should clear all previous tuning from memory as no channel;s should be found.
Plug the aerial back in and then repeat the automatic retune and hopefully all your channels will be correctly restored. If for some reason that hasn't worked, check in your TV tuning section that it tuned to the correct UHF channels for Winter Hill -
The UHF channels are C32, C34, C35, C29, C31, C37, C55 (C means channel) for the main multiplexes
BBC A/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBC B HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ARQ A/COM5, ARQ B/COM6, COM 7 .
If it's not correctly tuned, clear the tuning again and try a manual tune for each of those UHF channels.

Hi,
We are receiving our transmissions from the Mendip site. All stations are very good except ITV West which pixellates badly quite often, however if I choose Oxford & Bucks as my preferred region ITV is perfect. We much prefer to watch West Country news. Why is this and what is the solution ? My postcode is SN4 0LN
Thanks

Chissey boy: The Mendip and Oxford transmitters are in almost opposite directions from your postcode and Oxford being nearer is predicted to provide a stronger signal on the higher powered PSB multiplexes. Have you checked which direction your aerial is pointing? If the aerial is actually pointing towards Oxford you may find turning it around towards Mendip significantly improves your signal strength.

As StevensOnln1 has said, have you looked at which way your aerial is pointing?
This is quite interesting because depending on where you are within your postcode reception is very different. At some points you can also pick up 2 relay transmitters as well as Mendip and Oxford but reception can be quite variable.
There is one relay very close (1km) - called Chiseldon - which is a relay of Mendip and it's in virtually the same direction as Oxford from some points in the postcode although vertical polarisation.
So rather than go through all the possible combinations, if you post back with the direction you aerial is pointing - fractionally E of NE (for Oxford) bearing 51 degrees or roughly WSW bearing 243 degrees (for Mendip) and both of those with the rods (or squashed Xs) horizontal. Also indicate if you are towards the North end, South end, or roughly in the middle of your postcode.
The other information which will help is exactly which UHF channels you are tuned to for every multiplex. Look in your TV's tuning section where you should find this.

Oh, one other very important bit of information I forgot to ask, roughly how old is your aerial?
Also can you get BBC4 HD on 106 and BBC News HD on 107?

Hi Phil. You should have a Group A aerial (although Groups K/T/Wideband would work) pointing at the Stockland Hill transmitter on compass bearing 304 degrees (slightly N of WNW) and its rods (or squashed Xs) should be horizontal. For the D3&4 multiplex carrying ITV/C4/C5 and some of their sister channels you need to tune to UHF channel 23.
If you have C4 & C5 etc and are just missing ITV your tuning memory may need to be cleared first, in which case unplug the aerial and carry out an automatic tune. This should clear the tuning as no channels should be found. Plug the aerial back in and repeat the retune, hopefully all channels will be restored.
If you aerial is not pointing at Stockland Hill but almost due E with the rods vertical, it's predicted to be poor reception from the Charmouth relay. the D3&4 mux is on C41, BBCA on C41, BBCB HD on C47.
