Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview
Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.
Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.
This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.
Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

I use a good quality aerial in the loft(not allowed a roof one)and this gives me a signal quality of 10 and signal strength of 10 with standard freeview pictures but when I tune into the few freeview hd channels the signal quality drops to 2.All the lights are lit on my Philex SLx DVB-T Signal Meter.I use the Caradon Hill Transmitter.

Why on earth do we have to have challenge dumped on us just because we won't blight the environment with ugly dishes

Keith stephenson: Because Sky now own the slot and they can do as they please.

Bobcatia: Yes, much as your would expect with a loft aerial. Move it to the rooftop for reliable HD reception.

J purkis: Yes, that is the intention of BSkyB's policies. They are doing their best to claim they "own" HD.

It's all well and good saying that Channel 1 duplicates stuff on Sky but what about for those of us who don't have a satellite dish or wish to pay our hard earned cash to Rupert Murdoch?
There are some good progreammes currently on Channel 1. If they go and aren't replaced on another free service, many people will simply resort to illegal downloads or torrents to keep up to date with their favourite shows. All because Rupert Murdoch wants to own the entire world's media.

Murdoch can bite me, there's no way I'll ever attach a satellite dish to my house. Doesn't matter how many freeview channels he buys up and closes down.
I've been recording all the episodes of ST Voyager on my PlayTV adapter and copying out the files to my PC, for months. Luckily I'll have all 172 recorded by the end of January. Also managed to record the 13 eps of V series 1. That's a show I'll miss on freeview

By the way, what's with all the +1 channels? I used to have Film4+1 (dont get the Multiplex D channels inc Film4). They said that they were replacing Film4+1, it would be a proper channel not just a +1, then they turn around and replace it with channel4+1.
#facepalm
