To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I have a problem with ITV4. The day after switchover completion this channel was received well at high signal strength (Anglia area) Suddenly this channel comes up as NO SIGNAL, and no amount of re-tuning makes any difference. Why?

James Quinn: Simply because Penicuik is what's known as a Freeview light transmitter by only having three Mux channels, Ch54 - Ch49 - Ch58, the latter being the HD service.

If you have good reception of the Mux channels mentioned (first two if not using HD) then that's all that will be available, this due more to what commercial interests were willing to pay for rather than anything else, Freesat being the only option for a better selection of programmes.

The trade predictor shows reception possibilities from other transmitters, but personal knowledge of Penicuik's location makes what's seen rather fanciful to say the least! (Durris - Aberdeenshire)

Hi. I used to have all Freeview channels via a set top box, but a few weeks ago I had interference with ITV channels. After a re-scan I lost those channels. I have since been losing channel and after clearing all channels and doing a re scan I have lost almost all. Please help, I have a rooftop aerial and live in NR2

James Quinn: As jb38 says you might struggle to find a usable signal from any alternative transmitter. It is worth mentioning however that poor reception from Black Hill is predicted for a number of postcodes around Penicuik, if you are able to receive signals from B/H you should use a good quality group B receiving aerial set for horizontal polarisation.

KMJ,Derby: Yes, quite so KMJ, but how the Digital UK trade predictor can possibly show Durris - Aberdeenshire @ 140km away as a glowing possibility is beyond me, totally ludicrous!

since i connected my blue ray player to the port on the back of my television "HDMI 1"( both samsung ) i have lost quite a few channels when " re-programming " the channels in ( i re-programmed as these missing channels were pixilating badly )pulling the blue ray player cable out isnt really an option as i cant get to it round the back of the telly ( on wall ) ..its even worse when i plug in the normal DVD player into the side port ( HDMI 3 ) but as that is easy to get to ..i just pull it out when finished . ( with normal DVD player plugged in . only BBC1/2 and ch301 are available . any ideas? maybe arial upgrade?

cheers

Hi
Quick question - I have 3 freeview TV's (one Panasonic, one Philips and one LG)in the house, all connected to the same aerial on the roof. All TV's are picking up all channels with no problems but only one TV (Philips) will pick up the EPG. I've tried retuning etc but nothing works, the channel listing remains stubbornly blank. I live in HP14. Help would be much appreciated!

mark: Plugging devices into any of the TV sockets should have no effect whatsoever on the signal strength being received, "unless" that is that either the cable going into the TV's aerial plug / socket is loose and is being disturbed by any slight movement of the TV, or that there is serious deficiencies with your aerial system, this is being unknown.

You are only 1 mile from the Brierley hill transmitter and in theory should be receiving a good signal "if" your aerial is pointing to it, BBC being on Mux Ch68 and ITV1 etc on Mux Ch65, your aerial being mounted vertically, have a check on this via your TV's tuning menu.

Also have a check up in the 800 ranges of channels, as you might find better reception from some of the channels up there, if you do check what Mux (not EPG) channel numbers they show as, which may well be Brierley Hill.
