How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Frank- As Mazbar suggests. It's best to have your dish configured by a local installer as using a professional installation meter peaks both signal strength and picture quality levels. Such a meter can also check the efficiency of the cabling and LNB. It also has anything up to 64 satellites pre-programmed in amongst a host of other firmware and software installation aids. Actually three satellites parked within 1 degree of each other (that's still a fair distance apart at their parked orbit) are responsible for what you receive in transmissions to your dish antenna here. As Mazbar also points out other powerful satellites not quite so near can see basic meters when your setting up lock on to one of these. D.I.Y. installation is fine with a basic meter if your dish is at ground level and you can locate your digi-box and a small portable tV together where can check the signal and picture levels using these. Where your dish is on a building or at any height then you will really struggle.

Hi

my question is about reception in my caravan.I have a status 530 antenna. The aeriel goes into a booster and is then sent to a tv point, where I connect a piece of coax cable and run this into a digibox, which then connects via scart to TV (its an older TV hence need for a digibox). When I then run the digibox set up the best signal I can get so far is only 40% and hence very few channels are located (usually only bbc1 and a couple of others). I have tried rotating the aerial in virtually every compass point through 360 degrees, and have tried horizontal and vertical, but it never gets better than 40% and once I have settled for that, then the reception seems to fluctuate so much even when I have stopped rotating the aeriel. Do you need a special type of digibox for caravans of is something else wrong with my set up. Many thanks

John Glover: It would have been of assistance to know what your receiver box is? however no special requirements exist for any box just because its being used in a caravan, static or otherwise. (apart from 12volt operation in mobiles)

You have to appreciate that it could just possibly be that you are not in a good spot for reception, albeit that the predictor indicates that you should have good reception from Emley Moor. Another factor associated with what you are doing is whether or not the caravan roof is made of fibreglass or metal,(aluminium) as the latter is liable to affect reception in the same way as would a metal water tank near to a loft aerial.

The scart connection to the TV doesn't really come into the equation as it will not have any effect as far as your problem is concerned.

Pity you cant temporarily try a small ordinary aerial directly into the box to by-pass the T530 / booster box, as the Idle transmitter is only 2 miles away (@ 149 degrees) this being vertically polarised, the main transmitter Emley Moor some 18 miles away (@165 degrees) horizontally polarised.

To check what transmitter you are receiving go onto BBC1 whilst in the tuning menu / signal check area, and if you see Ch45 its Idle, with Ch52 being Emley Moor.

Brian

I still have not got around to installing my New LNB (it works well enough without it for me for a while). I am still concerned that I may not be able to do it myself. Not just installing the LNB itself by maybe loss of signal and finally the cable will not squeeze through the hole in the wall without A) A new hold being drilled or B)The end being cut off and then reattached....any advice ? How much would someone charge to do this for me ?

Jason: Whatever you do, don't do (B).

If you don't want to do it yourself, a local installer will probably charge you less than £50 to drill a new hole, fit the cable and new LNB, as well as ensure the dish is lined up.

Deb: If you have a problem exclusively with the Sky Movies channels, this would not be an LNB fault, but a subscription issue and you should contact Sky.

David Fitzpatrick: The card does not require activating.

It shouldn't cost too much to have your dish checked and realigned if you use a local professional installer.
