How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Heather: Thanks for your update on the situation, and pleased to hear that your problems have now been sorted out by the fitting of a new twin cable (referred to as shotgun type) from the dish, also the fact of the cable having been sensibly installed by allowing it to have enough slack to enable the box to be slid out of the cabinet that its housed in.

Regards / jb.

I have just upgraded my sky + box to a new hd box, new box installed and working fine. I had a standard sky box in the kitchen which I have taken out and replaced with the sky+ box, I have run a second cable so I have two inputs. The problem is the sky+ box says I have weak or no signal, I have tried connecting the standard box to both cables individualy and it works fine, so I assume cables ok....I then tried the sky+ box back in the lounge and it works fine, sky box ok.... Try back in kitchen weak or no signal... Repeat exchanges still same. Really scratching my head now!!! Any ideas please!

Eddie: When you ran the extra cable from the quad LNB on the dish are you sure that you didn't accidentally nudge the dish very slightly in the process? as your problem could suggest that happened.

What to do is this, using only the normal Sky box for a test try connecting it to each of the dish feeds one at a time and check what the signal level / quality is indicating (services-4-6) these should be level pegging about 75% or so, if the quality is lagging then the dish is slightly out.

By the way, don't expect to see exactly the same indications on the new box to that of the old one, as the circuitry is different likewise the readings will be too.

Eddie is the kitchen further away from the dish than the living room, if it is it could be the dish alignment or the dish or even the lnb. Some receivers react differently to weak signal you have done everything you can do the dish could do with being checked on a good meter to check signal strength but most importantly signal quality. Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, I have run tests, in the kitchen I have used the standard box on cable 1 signal strength 90% quality 50%
Then swaped to cable 2 signal strength 90% quality 50%
In the lounge the hd box gives readings of input 1
Signal strength 75% quality 25%
Input 2 signal strength 60%
So all seems fine?

Eddie: No! that's the opposite of fine, as the "quality" shown on a normal Sky box connected to a perfectly aligned dish should be at least the same as or, even slightly exceed the actual signal strength shown, so what you have mentioned in my book suggests that the dish is slightly out of alignment, something which is likely to give problems dependant on channels selected, although the quality / strength seen is that of the default transponders frequency this being why it always indicates the same no matter what channel you might be on.

Your new Sky+ box could have a less sensitive tuner than that in the old Sky box and that will make the situation worse, so its really the case of having the alignment checked.

By the way, what I am referring to only involves the merest nudge one way or the other in the horizontal plane, or its that the "skew" is out by the complete block having been turned slightly either clock or anti-clockwise, something which might have occurred when you were screwing the "F" plug into the blocks spare outlet.

Hi I have been away a few days when I got back the SKY channels were a bit jumpy (majority on 400 sports channels)and some stuck then resumed, came down yesterday morning and the dreaded fault 29 was showing, Changed the LNB and have off the scale with my sat finder, really strong signal, but looking at the signal strength and quality it is nothing not even registering. Tried the first two options above -no change, 3rd one I cant seem to get to work. My box is a thomson and about 6 years old, any ideas next?
