What can I do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fau
How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.
Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan
- Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.
- Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.
- Check cables and connectors are in good order.
- Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
- Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
- Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
- Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
- Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.
Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB
If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.- Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]
On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]
Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu". - Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
- Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
- Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
- Press [SKY].
- Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
- Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
- Press [SKY].
Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software
If there are still problems:- Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
- Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
- Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message ââ¬â this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.
- Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
- Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
- Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
- Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
- Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Stephen Darch: Although I am aware that some of these Sky HD boxes can suffer from premature failure of their power supplies, however when it involves two boxes this is a bit of a coincidence, if indeed it is that.
I suggest that you try placing the box in standby for 3 or 4 minutes before disconnecting it from the mains, then after another 3 or 4 minutes reconnect it again and allow it to go through the usual set up procedure and giving an update on results.

As suggested I have tried your suggestions and I left the box powered of all night. Still no change this morning with slky, freesat working fine so once again dish receiving a good signal on all feeders. Could an obstruction be causing the problem as. Freesat I have is tuned to a euro bird satellite, not Astra

Stephen Darch: If by receiving a good signal on all feeders you mean that the strength / quality levels are the same on Freesat then no it wont be anything connected with the dish, as to all intents Freesat and Sky are the same as far as dish angle settings are concerned. But though you should carry out the LNB setting check on your Sky box just in case for any unknown reason this has changed, the procedure to use being / LNB checking - reset on a Sky HD box 1:- Press services on your Sky remote control and you will see the main menu with "Options" highlighted. 2:- Highlight the "Settings" menu using the right arrow button and press select. 3:- Press "0 - 1 - Select" to access the Installer setup menu (this menu is not listed on the Settings menu options). 4:- Press Select to see the Setup menu displayed with Hi and Lo band frequencies indicated. The correct LNB values should read: LNB Type: Standard 1:- Low Band LO Frequency: 9.75 2:- High Band LO Frequency:10.60 3:- LNB Power Supply: ON 4:- 22 KHz Command: ON 5:- Single feed mode normally off. Press the red button to reset them to default values even although they may already be indicating them.

I checked all of these values and reset as suggested, I have now got my neighbour to trim his tree so that it does not block me. I have now got a full signal but the quality is quite variable with the max being 50% even though I have a clear view to the horizon. Would the skew angle for the lnb have an effect and if so what should it be. I also have a 40mm clamp on the lnb should it be holding in the middle or to front or back

Stephen Darch: LNB's can all be of different construction, but the clamp is usually positioned to the front of the neck just behind the flared section of the pick up surface facing into the dish bowl.
As far as Skew is concerned, its not super critical and if viewing directly onto the LNB from the rear it should be set about the One o'clock position.
But as far as the signal having returned is concerned, the quality and strength could NOT have been running parallel to each other before hand for the signal to suddenly return as a result of your neighbours pruning mission, because many of the free to view programmes on Sky are from exactly the same transponder as when received on Freesat, its just that they are given different EPG numbers.
This of course said on the assumption that you were using the "same" dish feeds on your Freesat TV as were being used on the Sky box and not from different ports on a quad LNB? because if that was the case then a partial obstruction of the dish can result in a slight downgrading of the signal on another port.

Thanks for your comments it's all very confusing what is going on here with my installation. I am going to give it a rest now for this weekend as the tv is just about working. As I have more time next week end I will work through all elements and try and find the weak spot . Once again many thanks for all your advice.

I have been having very bad/poor signal for a couple of weeks now. Pictures kept on breaking up and freezing. I have tried all three of these steps and now I get absolutely nothing. Just says no signal being received. Can't afford sky tech person and I love their unlimited broadband and phone line. Just a lot to pay when I can't watch sky channels and have to resort to my freeview t.v. I am not on sky +. I have had my Amstrad box a long time but have never had any signal problems before, my dish looks fine. I thought it might be the weather.

Rachel: What you have mentioned could suggest that water has entered the "F" connector that screws into the dishes LNB, as this can cause the signal to be intermittent or kill it completely.
Its also possible that your dish has moved slightly as that would result in exactly the same symptoms, although I suspect the "F" connector, the question being, do you know anyone who could unscrew the connector from the dishes LNB and check it for water?

Rachel: Just as an after thought on that said and based on the fact that your box can be a quite a few years old by now and as such could possibly be suffering from a known power supply defect, this being of a nature that affects the tuner by depriving it of its correct operating voltage and which can also result in either no, or intermittent reception.
Therefore before taking any action as far as the dishes "F" connector is concerned it would be prudent to if at all possible try and test your box on someone else's dish, or alternatively their box on yours as this would instantly reveal the source of the problem.
However if someone elses box failed on your dish then the reason for will be connected to that said in my original reply.
