To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.
anyone else get a full tv loss of signal last night july 7 during inspector george gently around 910pm coming back on at 935 or thereabouts in ky15 5en postcode area signal from relay transmitter south road cupar

The Cupar transmitter is a Freeview Lite one so only provides the BBC A, BBC B and D3&4 multiplexes. However, you would be able to get a wider range of services from the Angus transmitter, see Coverage Checker - Detailed View which is the Digitl UK Coverage Checker results for your location. If you have your aerial changed to a wideband type and aimed at 4 degrees East of North then retune, you should get all of the available channels shown on that page above.
As for the loss of signals, there has been no report of it here nor else where. Please check all your aerial connections and do not retune just for that.

Whilst reception from Oxford (we are in Terrick) has been consistent in the past, for some time this year
Signal strength. No quality in the evening has been variable and caused the Hunax box to declare low IR lids if signal on BBC 1/2 etc. HD channels are better but sometimes also suffer. Nothing has changed this end. Roof aerial, lift power amp, hunax box etc. Another TV in Kitchen now will not even include BBC 1 or 2 after recent forced retunes? According to coverage map we should be OK. As stated nothing changed this end. Are muxes now transmitting at reduced power levels? Or changing in the evening. Been here 20 years through Analogue and Digital and never had theses issues. Also doubt Humax box as another TV as stated above is worse? Any feedback / knowledge of any recent changes appreciated.

Mark Perkins: If it's only happening in the evenings there's a good chance that you're suffering from electrical interference caused by something operating on a timer (e.g. central heating/hot water etc). Also, have you checked for any loose or damaged cables/connections etc?

I moved to grange road felixstowe a couple of weeks ago and can't get anywhere near a decent signal on my tv. I've tried to re tune without an aerial and with the main aerial and stand alone digital tv aerial. sometimes there's one or two channels sometimes more. while watching a programme if i can get a signal briefly it then goes off and then nothing.
This is the first time I've experienced this. I've used the tv in other areas and not had a problem. i don't want to buy a sky dish or anything like it as i would be satisfied with just watching freeview, can you advise please?

Please put you post code into the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Digital UK - Coverage checker That will show you what transmitters cover your location, how good the signal might be and what chanels are being used.
It may be that there is a problem with the aerial or the aerial cables, so please check all of those. It is highly unlikely that an indoor aerial will be of any use, there are always poor. Note that there is no such thing as a 'digital' aerial as that is a scam intending to fleece more money out of purchasers of them.
Once you have manually tuned your TV (see your TV User Manual for how to do that) check the signal strengths of all the available multiplexes. The quality is not relevant at all yet. You need strengths of between 60% and 85%, no more and no less.

I live NR152DD and receive signal from Talconeston but for the last few days am unable to receive any BBC channels
All other channels are ok,
We have retuned the TV several times but still BBC is intermittent with broken up screen
We do not have a freeview box
can you provide any advice

You should be getting excellent reception from Tacolnston, see Coverage Checker - Detailed View for the detailed reception expectations for your location.
If you are loosing one or more channels DO NOT RETUNE, but as you have you have now lost the previous settings that were correct.
So start by checking all the aerial connections from the aerial to the TV. Then manually tune your TV to the channels currently being used by Tacolnston, as shown on the page mentioned above. Then check the signal strengths for all the channels used, they should be between 60% and 85% strength (quality is not relevant at this time).
Note that you ideally need a wideband aerial to get all channels reliably.

I live in steyning and have been on holiday for a month .To come back to only 21 channels on my freeview viewing I have tried returning several times .Have been in contact with freeview but with no luck What can I do my phone no is 01903 812518 ???

Mick king: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted coverage etc. Posting your phone number online is never advisable and could lead to an increase in unwanted telesales/nuisance calls etc.
