Hi. For me to help you, just think of your problem and answer each question in turn. First, are you seeing the words "No Signal" or "Technical fault" on the TV screen?

The Winter Hill transmitter frequencies listed on this site are all wrong.
They should be
Ch31 (554MHz) = Com8 (HD)
Ch37 (602MHz) = Arq B
Ch49 (698MHz) = Arq A
Ch50 (706MHz) = BBC A
Ch54 (738MHz) = BBC B (HD)
Ch55 (746MHz) = Com7 (HD)
Ch58 (770MHz) = SDN
Ch59 (778MHz) = D3&4
Changing on 20th Feb & 22nd Apr 2020
Thanks

Yes, regular posters here know that, and have frequently advised on many pages that the site owner has been unable to keep up with all the changes. We refer them to the official Freeview pages.

Hi, I have just moved into 4a winterstoke road, Weston-super-Mare BS23 3YT and none of the tv Ariel sockets work, so it looks like I will need to put in a new ariel. Can you please advise me of the best transmitter for this area (for freeview) and the type of ariel needed.
Many thanks

Ideally you should use the full service transmitter at Mendip. An alternative is the Freeview Light transmitter at Hutton. That has a restricted range of channels but might give better reception.

As MikeP says you should get very good reception from Mendip. But also note signals from Wenvoe (Wales) are very strong and depending on your TV's tuning section, you may need to manually tune rather than automatically if you TV does not ask which region (West) you want to watch.

ANNE ROUTLEDGE:
At this time neither Freeview nor the BBC are reporting any issues with the ROMALDKIRK transmitter, and there aren't others posting on that transmitter page with problems. As you will not doubt be aware there is some severe weather at present. Are there any power outages in your area?
Other than that, check all you coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads can be a common proble, try swapping them. See what signal strengths (if any) and quality you are getting for the multiplexes shown in your TV's tuning section, this might indicate potential issues with your aerial or downlead. Also check that your downlead looks undamaged and that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction.
Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just an individual or several multiplexes.

Why when we have a high pressure of weather, do we lose some tv channels ?

Ron Hawkins:
Hi. It's not the high pressure per se that cause the problems, it's usually the "Tropospheric Ducting" that sometimes comes with it.
The effect is you can pick up more distant transmitters, UK or Foreign, and this causes interference. In the old days with B&W 405 line TV, we used to talk about "Continental Interference".
These two articles should help explain in a bit more detail -

Hi, I am in Waltham Abbey (Essex/M25) and are not able to get a signal on BBC News HD even though it manually tunes OK (93% signal) via channel 23. I have tried channel 55 and there is not enough signal for a scan . . . . If I do an auto tune it finds 147 channels without any problem (England/London/Greater London) but no BBC News HD or BBC Four HD (it only finds the SD versions) . . . . any advice much appreciated - thanks! Simon
