To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Margery McWhirter:

If you are receiving your signals from the West Kilbride transmitter then you should be getting perfect reception as you are only 0.7km from it. Your aerial should be pointing almost ESE (a few degrees S of E) with the rods vertical. However, the transmitter has had poor quality since the 20th until the 28th, and there's been Planned Engineering as mentioned on the West Kilbride transmitter page, and you aren't the only one that's been having problems - have your neighbours had problems too?
If it's this transmitter you normally get, and your box has retuned it may be tuned to the wrong transmitter, so to be sure, unplug the aerial and do an automatic retune which should clear any previous tuning as no channels will be found. Then plug the aerial back in and repeat the retune and hopefully your channels should be correctly restored.

You say you've had the aerial checked, did that include the coax cable from the aerial to your box? If the cable hasn't been checked then it could be water getting into it causing problems. If that's all ok, and you are still having problems, describe your set up in more detail. Does the aerial lead go to a socket on the wall and a flylead to the Youview box and another to the TV set from the Youview box? Or does the aerial cable go directly to the Youview box, or through a splitter etc.?

If your aerial is pointing NNE (rods vertical) at the Rothersay transmitter, there is a hill fairly close which is in the way of the signal and you won't get reliable reception.

Tunbridge Wells

I have just retuned my tv several times but have lost all bbc channels on freeview. I live in TN4 0SA area. I have read conflicting statements on the strength of the local transmitter.
Any help would be appreciated

The predicted transmitter for your postcode is the Tunbridge Wells transmitter which you should have no problems receiving (the strength of the transmitter isn't directly relevant, as predicted reception is excellent) There is a lot of Planned Engineering in the Meridian region this week, but Tunbridge Wells is not listed as one that's included, however .......
I'd try another retune later in the day, a manual one may be best, UHF C41 for the main BBCA multiplex and C47 for the BBCB HD multiplex.
If you still have problems report it to the BBC on 03700-100-123.

Gerard Clark:

Just for clarification, you don't "receive" Netflix in the same way you receive channels transmitted over the air.
Netflix is a "streamed" service that you get through your Internet connection.
If that is working OK, then you should be able to get BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and other streaming apps installed on your Talk Talk box.
The Freeview channels transmitted "over the air" require an aerial to be plugged into the box. If you have an aerial connected and are not even able to get a screen which says "No signal" or similar when trying to view the channels 1,2, 3 etc. nor getting any of the other streamed services, then I would try a full factory reset of the box and a retune when prompted.
If all your streamed services work ok, but not the Freeview channels, you need to go to the box's Tuning section in Settings and carry out a full retune.

You should have no problem receiving signals at your location from your predicted transmitter (Black Hill), you should have excellent reception for all multiplexes.

Can't see any faults reported at the moment either by Freeview or the BBC. You shouldn't normally have any problems with reception from Brierley Hill. IF you can, with social distancing, check if your neighbours are having a similar problem?
If you are getting Channels 3 & 4, you should be getting a lot more besides eg. 5, 6, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18, 24, 28, 33, 100. Are you getting any of these?

If your neighbours are not having the same problem, then perhaps check all you coax plugs and connections behind your set etc.
If you happened to retune immediately before this happened or because you lost signal, it may have cleared correct tuning, so a retune may be the best option, but proceed as follows -
Unplug the aerial and do an automatic retune. This should clear all previous tuning as no channels are found.
Then plug the aerial back in and repeat the retune. Hopefully this will have restored all channels correctly.

Good morning

I live in Bath and until late last night we were receiving a perfect Freeview signal. Suddenly everything went to 'Low digital signal strength' on both TV sets (one upstairs, one down) - they are both on the Mendip transmitter. Both the Mendip and Freeview sites report no problems, yet there seem to be a number of people from all over the country reporting low signal issues. I have re-scanned the channels but this has made no difference. Through our HD DVD player we can receive BBC1, BBC2, BBC Parliament and (a little broken up but largely okay) Sky News, but no ITV3 or Channel 4.
Would you be able to advise please?
Many thanks.

1968Girl:

Mendip transmitter has been on Planned Engineering with "Possible weak signal" which in some locations will look like no signal at all. There are frequently many transmitters around the country with engineering, so people may be reporting things without realising what is happening.
It's never a good idea to retune when you have weak or lost signal as all it does is clear any correct tuning and you'll just have to repeat retuning when signals are normal.
At time of posting this all Mendip signals appear to be normal.
