Richard Tong:

I'm afraid I can't help with any satellite issues if it's a communal installation, if it persists you need to be either more specific about what channels have been lost, and posting on a more suitable board which will likely get a response from someone more expert on satellite, or contact the building management to get the issue looked at but check first if other neighbours have the same issue.

As far as Freeview is concerned, oh dear, your postcode is not well served by any one transmitter. You are obviously in a bit of a poor spot from various transmitters.
The Freeview Checker suggests that Waltham is your most likely transmitter ! However that only gives reliable reception from the 3 PSB muxes, no reception from SDN/COM4, also poor for ArqA & B and variable to poor for COMs 7&8, all after a retune event in March next year!
But it also shows consistent reception (albeit it mostly variable) from all muxes except COM8 from Sandy Heath. SDN/COM4 is good at present but becomes variable after a retune on 12th Feb. and after other transmitter changes on Mar.4th. you'll lose COM7.

Having told that tale of woe, as regards the channels you have lost - there've been a few changes since the summer. Sony have moved many of their channels to Local muxes. There is supposedly one at Sandy Heath on C35 but I doubt you're in an area that'll get it. You'll most likely get some/all on Satellite. They've also more recently renamed many of those channels. Last week and today (Thurs) have seen Film4+1, More4+1 & E4+1 move multiplex. See Channel listings | Freeview but at time of posting it doesn't show the E4+1 move.

If it's other channels you are missing, check with your neighbours if they have the same problems and post with details.

LCN48 is one of several Sony channels that they moved to Local multiplexes back in the summer. If you get the Local TV stations on LCN7 and/or LCN8 then you should get those Sony channels. If you get your signals from Sutton Coldfield are in an area that may get the Local muxes, the UHF channels to tune are C48 & C36.

Sorry to have missed your post earlier, you should have no trouble receiving any of the multiplexes from Bilsdale. As you may have noticed from some of the other posts here, it looks as if COMs 7&8 were still off-air until quite late in the day. Try a further retune if you haven't yet got them.

First, they was a major retune event in the region on the 13th, did none of you see pop-up messages on screen advising you to retune? Also see 13 Nov 2019 - Changes to the Freeview channel line-up in the Fenham area | Freeview as you no longer have COMs 7&8 from Fenham. But also you now have a Local multiplex on UHF channel 36 which you should pick up with your retune giving a local station at LCN7 and some extra Sony channels as well.
(Note COMs 7&8 are available still at Pontop Pike transmitter).
All transmissions should now be working normally.

2nd, you should not post your phone number in a public forum, you leave yourself vulnerable to spam calls and con-artists of which some may say things like there's be fraud on your bank account, we've created a new account for you if you transfer your money here now, there won't be any further problems. Your Bank will NEVER do that, if they ever have to create a new account for you, you do not have to do any transfers yourself they will have done it. Never agree to transfer or pay any money or give bank card details to anyone that has rung you. You only do that when you have called a company you know to pay your bill !

Just to advise, yes if you are within two miles of the transmitter, you may need an attenuator and you should be able to see it so align your aerial perfectly ;)

I'm inclined not to believe that Wiki item about 5G at the Wenvoe mast itself, EE's coverage checker doesn't suggest a strong enough signal right by the mast !

COMs 7&8 are very unlikely to move (below 700MHz), the current plan (we think, as nothing has been finalised) is that they may be turned off by 2022, but that's if Mobile operators are ready to use that "gap" which has been allocated for SDL mobile use. None of the 700MHz band has yet been auctioned btw, due early next year.

It's not unlikely at all, I'll repeat what I said in a previous post -
Quote "So I think therein lies your problem, indoor or loft aerials can be affected by all sort of things apart from roof tiles, worse when wet, water tanks, partition walls etc, and this can be very FREQUENCY DEPENDANT so affecting some channels more than others."

Try repositioning the aerial and see if you can get any improvement.

Firstly, this site is not responsible for any transmitters or broadcasters, it's an independent help site.
To look at your predicted reception a full postcode is needed. The Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker does not work on addresses or partial postcodes (nor does the BBC Reception help site).

2nd, it sounds like your set/box memorys need clearing. Unplug the aerial and do a full retune on both. This should clear all previous tuning as no channels will be found.
Plug the aerial back in and do a full retune on each which should restore the channels correctly to the correct LCNs.

If you still have problems after that, post back with more detail and the postcode.

paul milne:

Neither Freeview nor the BBC are reporting any current issues with the transmitter.
The twitter user needs to follow the same advice as I've given, but post back later if you've still got issues.

The problem is look at the uneven response! There is definitely things messing up the signal, reflections, attenuation etc from god knows what. The first thing to try is repositioning. Whilst I sympathise with the view about outdoor aerials in exposed locations in North Yorks, if a suitable position in a loft or wherever cannot be found to get a more reliable performance, then your suggestions are the obvious considerations, especially the log periodic with a tighter beamwidth and excellent front to back ratio, it's even the best option for outdoors.

There is Planned Engineering at Whitehawk Hill this week with "Possible weak signal".
So if you don't live that close to the transmitter, you may lose signal altogether until the power is put back up again.
