Lost_Station_Man: Judging by the prediction of signals at the postcode associated with your previous posting I suggest that you aren't likely to be able to receive stable COM7 (BBC News HD etc) from Tacolneston because it's co-channel with that of Waltham. Perhaps you were either picking it up from Tacolneston or Belmont or Sandy Heath.

Alan Turner: Could it be because C33 is Belmont and your aerial faces Tacolneston?

Tacolneston is on C31 and it is lower power than the other channels. It is also out-of-group C/D meaning that you might require a wideband aerial.

chelsea : See here for some ideas:

TV Aerials for Boats and Caravans

I vouch for the good design of the DM Log. Although it's fixed in my loft I can see that its elements are more rugged than other logs with round elements. The tilting bracket may also be useful for touring.

Cathy Smith: Looking on StreetView, most of the aerials appear to point to Belmont - which gives BBC East Yorks & Lincs and ITV Yorkshire. If that's you then the aerial isn't pointing to the transmitter which carries Notts TV.

Dave Proctor: The reason that the Leek transmitter does not broadcast the Commercial multiplexes because the operators don't want to pay. See:

Leek (Staffordshire, England) Freeview Light transmitter | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice

Perhaps the breakup in the signal is due to the Fenton transmitter which uses the same frequencies. It would also appear to be the case that you do not have line-of-sight with Leek.

John N: The terrain blocks line-of-sight with Pontop Pike, which could be a reason.

Ricky Barr: There's probably little you can do.

In the UK there are two types of broadcaster: Public Service (PSB) and Commercial (COM). The PSB networks carry BBC, STV, Channel 4, Channel 5 etc. The COM networks are the ones I think you are having difficulty with.

Whilst the coverage of the PSBs is as the former four-channel analogue, the COMs fit in where possible and in some places aren't available at all or are likely to intermittent.

At your location if your aerial points to Angus (Dundee) then its COMs use the same frequencies (channels) as the PSBs of Penocuik, so intermittent or no reception is likely. The Angus PSBs don't share channels with other transmitters so should be available.

If you receive from Durris (Turriff) then there are no channel clashes, although its COMs are lower power than its PSBs. It's 86 miles away and the Fife peninsula blocks your view.

A couple of thoughts spring to mind:

1. If you are receiving from Angus then you might find that mounting the aerial below the roof line will help block the signal from Penicuik, it being in the opposite direction. This isn't forced to work and there may always be times when the unwanted signal bends or gets reflected back to your aerial.

2. Check that you are tuned to the transmitter your aerial faces by viewing the signal strength screen on the following:

PSB1 - BBC One
PSB2 - STV
PSB3 - BBC One HD
COM4 - ITV3
COM5 - Pick
COM6 - 4Music

The six channels of Angus are: 60, 53, 57(HD), 54, 58, 49

Those of Durris are: 28, 25, 22(HD), 23, 26, 29

Nigel: Which transmitter are you using?

Emley Moor seems the most likely. If you loose BBC One but not other BBC services and ITV but not Channel 4, Channel 5 etc then could you be tuned to Bilsdale for them and Emley for BBC One Yorkshire and ITV Yorkshire?

Nigel: In which case your problem is probably that your TV has run out of memory, what with C60 being the last to be found. If it receives HD then what's happened could be explained by the new quasi-national COM7 HD mux coming on air from Bilsdale (not sure what date this happened).

Clear it all and manually tune, or have the aerial unplugged for a part of the automatic tuning scan where there is a multiplex you don't use.

However, if the only two transmitters you can get are Bilsdale and Oliver's Mount then you might have to use the latter for PSB1 and PSB2.

Nigel: Yes, but are you receiving ITV Yorks+1 from Bilsdale (there isn't a +1 for every region)?
