Fiona: Since, as you point out, there are no problems with the transmitter, so it has to be your aerial system. Start with the obvious - has the aerial lead fallen out of the back? Then trace the cable as far up as you can. If the aerial is in the roof, you can check it, and obviously make sure that any boosters, etc are working. And then call someone out...you might want to look at this thread to make sure your not ripped off...
What price for an aerial installation?

David Hawke: There could a couple of reasons, but first check which transmitter your tuned to and signal strength - could be too weak or too strong. Also then check your aerial - is it working properly. And is the problem constant, and particular time, and what exactly happens?

My Luxor Lux-dvbt2-690 can no longer receive HD channels since some alteration from the Winter Hill Bolton station.
I understand this is a software problem and that there may be a software upgrade, if so, how do I perform this.

Phil Almond: To my knowledge there hasn't been an O.A. (over air) software update download for your particular Luxor model as yet, the Vestel T8300 chassis fitted in same being used by approximately twelve other brand names and with all of obviously suffering from the same problem as your Luxor.
With regards to the procedure used to update the software, you can find out the info required by opening the following link, the first page that appears explaining the problem and with the second (viewed by clicking on "Service bulletin document") explaining the procedure used. (not for the faint hearted!)
Unofficial Vestel PVR Information (UK) - News
However, an O.A. download is by far the most convenient way to update the software and the second link is to DTG's info page of weekly downloads which be viewed by opening the link, and although no updates are mentioned for this week its advisable to check it every few days.

i have had a new aerial fitted, it pokes over a flat roof covered in aluminum cladding( about 8 inches from the sheet metal). Could this be the reason for poor reception?

It certainly does not help! It is best to mount an aerial away from any conducting material, such as an aluminium roof, etc. The metal can upset the way the aerial should work and give unexpected results.
Some years ago a copper domed roof caused a total loss of reception for six houses in the same road, the roof 'bending' the RF signals away from that part of the road!
