Freeview reception at CO15 5AR

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Is there limited freeview channels available in the Conwy area? I can only get the main channels at my address post code LL31 9NQ. How do I rectify this?

Michael Cunningham: If you click on the M's home to mast plot and M's DigitalUK tradeview beside your question, you'll see that your position/geography makes Conway Light transmitter the only one you can reasonable get (the Light is there to make sure you at least get something).

If you want more, Freesat is probably your best bet, if you have the chance to 'see' the sat.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask about digital radio reception. Our freeview digital telly is fine and we have two individual digital radios in the house (kitchen and bedroom) which we have had, perfectly usable for some few years. A couple of weeks ago the reception on both was lost within a couple of days of each other and it has not returned. Can only use the radios on FM. DAB readout says it cannot find stations.
Any ideas on the problem and how it can be fixed?

Hi JB38, me again. Tried different tv straight into aerial and it picks up LESS channels than our normak tv. We r therefore concluding something is wrong with the aerial. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Fran Shuttlewood: On having read over all said in your posting's since the original on August 7th, including the outcome of the various tests carried out, the posting that particularly interests me is the one made on the 13th Aug @ 11.49AM where you mention that "although receiving a strong signal you cannot store it".

After having re-tuned your TV, did you check up in the EPG 800 range of listings (e.g: 800 - 801- 802 etc) to make sure that the channel you tried to store (but apparently lost) has not actually been stored but up in that range? as this can happen if Woodford Halse's BBC1 (West Midlands) has taken the number 1 position.

Can you also confirm that mentioned in your item No2 (13th Aug) insomuch that re-tuning with, and without, the booster made no difference?

Hi JB, we have no channels in the 800 range and the booster makes no difference. Tried tuning alternative tv with and without booster and on both occasions found 31 channels - usual bbc stuff, itv, 4 and 5 and some radio stations - no freeview channels.

Michael Simon: There is currently (August 2014) work taking place at Caradon Hill affecting the BBC local FM service and DAB transmissions. The reserve DAB antenna is a single dipole mounted below the BBC aperture, so it is likely that the strength of the DAB signal you are currently able to receive (or not!) is somewhat weaker than normal.

Fran Shuttlewood: The reason for the lack of channels is most likely because that the alternative TV used for test purposes is only picking up Freeview from the local (very!) Woodford Halse transmitter, which of course would be difficult not to!

However, now that the difficulty you are experiencing has been verified on a second TV the problem can be somewhat narrowed down to either the booster being defective, or that of a defect on your aerial system. As far as the booster is concerned, although I do realise that you have had the device tested by someone from Maplins, purely for verification purposes I would like you to try the following simple test "if" you can access the booster or power supply to.

Select any programme channel you can receive, the strength / quality of the signal being noted and leaving the TV monitoring same followed by switching off the power supply to the booster, if the booster is OK then the signal will either vanish (the norm) or alternatively "might" only drop to a very low level due to breakthrough caused by the high signal level you could be receiving from the local transmitter.

If you find either to be the case?, then this points to the problem being caused by a defect in the aerial system, maybe caused water having entered the termination box on the aerial where the coax is connected into it.

Garry E Hunt: A building or vegetation which, when wet, causes you to loose stable reception maybe. Is one or more of those tall buildings in the way?
