Fred : Stockland Hill at just over 8 miles / 90 degrees is indicated as being the transmitter that covers your area, albeit with a line-of-sight obstruction to the signal path being seen at just over 1 mile prior to your location.
Although DUK's reception predictor does suggest that good reception is possible, L.O.S obstructions to a signal path can cause variations in the level of the signal being received, and its possible that your problem "might" just be down to the signal level hovering at just above the threshold for reception.
Therefore, you should carry out a signal check on the channels in question, monitoring the strength, but particularly the quality of over a few minutes or so, if both levels are seen to dip slightly now and again then a variable booster is liable to improve the situation, however if the quality is seen to drop to almost zero (if not vanish completely) then the problem is likely to be out with your control, and of course boosters would not be of any assistance as they cannot compensate for loss of quality.
Further advice dependant on feedback.

Hi, I live just outside Howden, East Yorks DN14 7RP). My aerial points to Emley moor and I have always had good reception. I was forced to retune yesterday evening, which appeared to go ok picking up Emley moor. Over night my box (Humax recorder) looks to have automatically retuned and picked up Bilsdale in North Yorks, I am missing quite a few programmes - Ch 4 & 5 ITV2 and more. On previous occasions, auto tuning has picked up Belmont in Lincolnshire. I have had to do a manual retune on some channels to rectify the situation Can anyone tell me what causes my equipment to auto tune to the wrong transmitter?

Phil: You probably need to choose a network/region preference. Emley Moor is "Yorkshire", Belmont is "E Yks & Lincs" and Bilsdale might be "Tyne Tees".

Hi. I have recently put a new aerial system in my loft and renewed all the wires. I have a brand new high gain digital aerial and double shielded satellite cable. My aerial goes to a masthead booster where the signal goes to 3 TVs around the house. We have 2 BT Youview Humax boxes and one of the smaller new BT you view box. When installing the cables, I was careful to make sure that the aerial cables were not running in line with any power cables although they do cross in 2 places.
My problem is that when I switched the system on, all channels worked on all three boxes. Then, on the two upstairs TVs, I lost several channels, namely the channels which are associated with ITV and Channel 4. I re-tuned, and lost more and more channels. I have one portable aerial and have plugged it into one of the boxes and have managed to get all the channels back on that tv, but in our back room, where i can get no signal from a portable aerial, we have gone from 64 free view channels to 24. All internet channels supplied by BT work fine on all TVs. I can't understand why I should constantly be losing channels when I know that several days ago it was all working fine. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can try to help things improve.

Mike Wiltshire: If you have upgraded your tv aerial for a high gain one and is the aerial pointing to the correct transmitter and check all aerial connections from your booster block and try changing the connections ie swap a tv point to another..... if that shows that tv once a good pic now bad could be dodgy booster. if that dont make any difference double check the tv aerial plugs make sure the braided copper is not touching the hard copper should have at least 1cm clearance between the two. hope this helps.... also try another tv on the bad tv points see what happens........
good luck

Does your new aerial point roughly west of south or east of north? The former is aimed at Huntshaw Cross, so you may actually have too much signal with a high gain UHF aerial and a booster/splitter. If it is in the latter direction, there is big hill in the way that is highly likely to cause problems!
BTW, there is no such thing as a 'digital aerial', all UHF aerials can receiveFreeview transmissions whether they are called 'digital' or not. Aerials do not differ merely because the carrier (multiplex) is conveying digital or analogue content. Aerials have to be of the correct 'Group' for the wanted transmitter or a wide band design.

John : What you have reported is inclined to suggest that the problem is one of a local issue and not connected with the transmission side of the equation, as my household views Freeview from Waltham and as far as I know reception has been perfectly OK.
However, one possibility that does exist is that of a 4G transmitter being tested out in your area, because should you be located anywhere near to the 4G transmitter site channels at the higher end of the band, such as mainly used by Waltham, can be affected, Notts TV (Mux C26) as well as ITV3 (Mux C29) operating on the lower end of the band and as such less chance of being affected.
Should the aforementioned apply, others in your area are also liable to be affected to a certain degree dependant on the brands of equipment being used, and in cases such as this local enquiries are essential to determine if the problem is confined only to your installation or not, because if it is, then the problem is not likely to be connected with 4G.
That said, the other thing that you should check is that your TV has not carried out a channel update and has accidentally stored channels from Belmont, as Belmont is used by a number of viewers around the Spalding area, some having two aerials to enable reception from both Waltham and Belmont.
The way to find out if it has or not, being to carry out a signal test BBC1, ITV1 and ITV3 for the purpose of noting the Mux channel numbers associated with the channel being tested, these usually always being indicated along with the strength / quality levels.
Waltham : BBC1 Mux C49 (698.0Mhz) / ITV1 Mux C54 (737.8Mhz) / ITV3 Mux C29 (538.0Mhz)
Belmont : BBC1 Mux C22 (482.0Mhz) / ITV1 Mux C25 (506Mhz) / ITV3 Mux C30 (545.8Mhz).

I live in Steeton - BD20 6NX and just got a Freeview HD box to try and get MotorsTV, but it isn't coming through. I don't seem to get any of the Com7 channels, although the coverage map suggests the Leeds transmitter almost covers my area.
I have an August DVR400 box, is there any way to force it to manually pick up a weaker signal?
