Paul Green: Yes, on testing I have also experienced the problem referred to, although no doubt Briantist who owns and operates the site will rectify this now that its known about. But though you should click on "Digital UK tradeview" seen on the list on right hand side of your posting as this indicates Emley Moor as providing the best signal for your location, the Bilsdale transmitter a close second.

We are at CM5 9PD and receive from Crystal Palace. Our aerial is on a 5m pole mounted on the side of the house, aerial height about 10m, and has a masthead amplifier with four outputs that are distributed to different rooms in the house. This setup has been working fine for several years. In the past few days we have started having problems. At around 22:00 BBC1 (SD) starts glitching and by 22:15 it's deteriorated to the point where none of our digital receivers can pick it up. Checking channel status shows that three transmitter channels have been lost and three are still working fine (e.g. ITV is ok). It stays like this until we go to bed but is back again in the morning (at least by lunchtime). We have tried retuning, but all that does is to lose programmes from the channel list from transmitter channels that aren't being picked up. Currently we have lost C30, but everything else is fine. Can anyone shed any light on what might be happening? It is highly frustrating and the regularity suggests to me that something is interfering, but we haven't changed anything as far as we are aware. What's equally strange is the way the signal takes 10-15 minutes to deteriorate to the point where it is lost.

Gavin: I just double-checked and we currently can't get C28 (or C30) but everything else is fine.

Hi, with regards to the technology that causes the Freeview equipment to effectively shut down (AGC.) Is there any equipment that uses a multiband compressor type component to only dampen the exact frequency that causing the overload?

John Taylor: Yes, such as the item shown on the link, although these as you will no doubt see mentioned in the link, have to be carefully set up to work properly.

Hi, I live in Swindon and my Freeview signal goes from full to virtually nill everyday around 6.45 -7am for about 5 mins, any ideas ? I have checked to make sure nothing is coming on in our house around that time.

Steve Leonard: I suggest you use an AM radio to track down the source of the noise:
