Have just gone on the Radio & TV Investigation Service website and used diagnostic tool search. Shows up in red that apparently "There appears to be a problem on 1 platform(s) for your postcode". That being mine so something's amiss!! Whatever that means, tv transmitter engineer must know. Pls fix soon. Thks :)

Gillian Crosswell & ros : It would be best if you supply a postcode, since its very difficult to give any answers about reception without one.
However, start with looking at your signal strength and quality (via the setup menu) - if the strength is too high, that might be an answer to your problem. Make sure that all cables are connected properly, and look to see where your aerial is actually pointing where you think it should be - are you actually tuning in to a different transmitter.
And do a proper retune - a full first time setup or something similar is whats needed, not just looking for any new channels.

Hi, with freeview equipment is there any other way (easier) to check signal strength/quality other than manual retune?

It may be coincidence but I have a tv wireless sender fitted on my tv, I had problems with my wi-fi so I turned it off and ever since have had no problem with the freeview signal.

Hi! Im having a few issues with friends who have a high signal strength around 80% but low quality around 20% resulting in pixelation and loss of channels. Obviously, a booster would probably overload things so what would you recommend to do in this situation??
Cheers John

John Taylor: If the location entered is that of your friends then at approximately 1 mile from the Crystal Palace transmitter experimenting with the aerial mounting positions usually brings results, they key thing being that the aerial should be as simple as possible and not amplified in any way such as found on certain set top types.
If though the location referred to is not that of your friends then further advice can be given if their whereabouts is indicated, a post code or one from somewhere nearby being suffice.

Steve Leonard: It isn't a coincidence, as wireless senders that operate in the lower band of 2.4Ghz can interfere with Wi-Fi, cordless phones etc as they use the same frequency range, although in the case of them interfering with Freeview its not the 2.4Ghz signal that causes the problem but the high level of digital interference that radiates from the casing on many of these devices, likewise they should never be positioned anywhere near to a Freeview device or the coax cables to or from.
The later versions of Video senders are a safer bet as they operate in the 5.8Ghz band, although just like in the case of the 2.4Ghz units they should not be positioned close to Freeview devices.

Mrs h: I am a bit surprised that your inlaws could have been receiving ITV3 in the first place as viewers in that area are only predicted as being able to receive PSB services, however as far as ITV3 etc having vanished is concerned I would say that this is most likely being caused by the aerial facing directly into rather dense trees at the bottom of their garden, which by now the growth will have increased on whereby reducing the signal level of these channels to below that required to resolve a picture.
If their TV or box has a "manual tuning" menu go into this and enter Ch23 but do NOT press search or scan, because the signal level that Ch23 is being received at should then be indicated, make a note of its strength / quality giving an update on results, also mention the model number of the set should any problems be experienced.
Is a booster being used on their aerial system?
