Freeview reception at DD2 4BD

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

sophie harris : Your area is covered by the Kingsbridge relay of the Caradon Hill main transmitter, said relay taking its feed off-air from the main transmitter, the problem with these type of set ups being, that Caradon Hill is listed on the planned engineering page under the heading of "possible weak signal", this being something which can possibly have an affect on transmissions from its relays dependent on how low the signal might be, Kingsbridge obviously being one of its relays.

The action of retuning your TV whilst the signal was down will have deleted everything stored in the tuner, therefore, you have no option other than to carry out further retunes now and again to recover that lost, as the channels will not return of their own accord.

That said, it would of course be beneficial to check with a neighbour to ascertain if they are also experiencing problems with reception, if they aren't, nor even have been, then check for loose aerial connections / jumper leads etc on your system.

Moreton-in-marsh

The nearest and recommended transmitter from Moreton-in-Marsh is Lark Stoke. However, this transmitter does not transmit HD or is limited in choice of Freeview channels so Ariel installers in this area recommend pointing at a transmitter either transmitting direct from Oxford or via a relay. Either way, users have no choice but to watch BBC South or Oxford instead of BBC West Midlands. This is a pain and unless you have a satellite provided service, you are stuck with watching news from the South East region. A lot of elderly people in Moreton who do not have a Satellite dish are affected by this and it is a pain!

I live on the south side of Glasgow and because of local geographical features (a steep hill right behind the house and tall trees to the south etc. we cannot receive any signal from Harthill and Darvel - the main transmitters for this area.
I have pointed the aerial directly at the Rosneath transmitter. It is 41km away and without an amplifier there is no useable signal. but with an amp placed in the eaves near where the cable enters the roof we can now receive clear signals of PSB1 (BBCA) Channel 49
PSB2 (D3+4) Channel 58
PAB3 (BBCB) Channel 54
Signal strength ranges between 80% and 90% according to my television and it rates the signal quality at 100% on all 3 channels.

However,
COM4 (SDN) Channel 53
COM5 (ArqA) Channel 57
COM6 (ArqB) Channel 57

Show as zero signal.
I am plugging directly into the TV - an LG 42LM 670T.

Can anyone help me me fix this or at least understand why?

Thanks.

Simon: I don't think you will be able to receive Rosneath COMs at your location because they are co-channel with the Cathcart transmitter which is on the same bearing and is also vertically polarised.

The COMs have inferior coverage, meaning that for transmitters which do carry them there are likely to be places where only PSBs can be received reliably.

Darvel and Black Hill are your only possibilities for picking up the COMs, and if you can't receive from either then it's PSBs only I'm afraid.

Dave Lindsay: Thanks Dave, for taking the time to analyse and describe the situation so clearly. It lets me consider options and not waste time trying to fix the unfixable.
Cheers,
Simon

Simon: This box has automatically addressed you, so I don't know if that is correct. From new, our Sony 1TB PVR has had to be manually tuned to Emley Moor, Yorkshire, as it prefers to look over the Pennines and 100 miles further to Carlisle, to pick up the weak signal from NW TV. The list of MUXs I had appears to have been superceded and I can't find a new list. Can anyone help please? The list I was using is: 41, 44, 47, 48, 51,52. but even this won't overide the NW tendency. The Sony TV doesn't appear to suffer the same problem.
The store has since closed down but denied any problem from new.A with all problems, we are the only people in the known universe to have experienced this.
Help please, Jack
