Freeview reception at B60 3SE

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Mauricio:

I suggest you contact a local aerial contractor to have your aerial system checked - at a cost.

We occasionally suffer interference or complete loss of picture, with BBC standard definition channels, most notably BBC 1 and 2, but BBC News channel also affected, possibly others.
Other channels, including BBC HD channels, are unaffected.
Our situation is:-
1. Post code is CB231HR, house number 42
2. The aerial system was installed professionally, in the loft, just over a year ago
3. Humax digital receiver is about 1 year old.
Can you suggest please, any possible reasons for this to occur, for further checking.
Kind regards
Michael

How do I force a terrain view for an address in Porthleven for Redruth transmitter (which I can't pick up)? I'm sure I used to be able to see the blocked line of sight.

We need a full post code, not a partial. Only then can we determine which transmitter you should be using and what the reception conditions are like. Indoor aerials are rarely good enought for full reception unless you are very close to the transmitter.

We frequently receive heavily pixellated pictures and interference on many of our Freeview channels. Over the last five years we have had professionally installed, a new aerial, two signal booster/amplifiers, re-wired co-axial et.c. late last year, all of our channels were adversely affected so we yet again had to seek professional advice from an aerial installer. The installer advised us that, on this occasion, we were almost certainly subject to interference from a nearby 4G transmission mast (we can see this mast approx. 200 metres from our house); we therefore paid 80 for a filter to be connected direct to our aerial mast. This filter did seem to alleviate the problem where all of the channels were subject to interference. Unfortunately, the long-standing problem of some channels frequently being pixellated has not been alleviated; some days reception is fine, some days it is not. We have now spent 100s trying to resolve this issue, unsuccessfully. We really were better off with analogue !

We tried to sign up for Sky, but they were unable to obtain a signal from any point outside our house (although all of our neighbours have no problems); I have contacted Virgin to enquire about cable but they do not currently have cable provision in our vicinity. Anyone have any suggestions ? Postcode = WA9 5UH; our signals come from Winter Hill.

Keith:

I can see no reason why you would not be able to receive any Sky signals in your part of Ecclestone near St Helens. That neighbours can receive the signals suggests the 'tests' were not conducted properly. It may be worth talking to a local aerial supplier who knows your area better.

However, from what you describe there is a possibility that you have significant trees blocking your direct view of both the Winter Hill transmitter and the Sky (Astra) satellites.

Can you confirm whether there are indeed a number of trees in the general direction of the transmitter? It would also help if you enter your post code into this website when it asks. That will enable 6 little boxes at the bottom of your submission showing what the reception conditions are expected to be at your location.

The provision of cable services by Virgin is a purely commercial choice on their part. Do you have a fast broadband connection? If so, is it FTTC or FTTP/H? It needs to be at least 5 Mbps for any TV services via the web (more for HD services). It is rumoured that in a few years time more and more TV will be delivered via the web and that terrestrial transmissions of TV will cease to allow the currently used frequencies to be used for mobile broadband.

The potential 4G issue should have been resolved by you contacting At800 (their website contact is given as https://at800.tv/contact-us/) as they are responsible for resolving the issues you mention if they are due to 4G transmissions. They would have supplied a filter free if you were being affected, or likely to be affected, by 4G transmissions.
