Freeview reception at TN39 3HX

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Hi, I live in SY11 4PQ, on Monday night 7-8 was fine then the HD Channels started breaking up and have continued to do so. I Know there is no problem with our arial because the SD Channels are fine. what could be the problem

Sam:

This could be perhaps due to either too much signal strength or too little. You are 37 km from the Wrekin transmitter so it could be either.

Please check on your TV what the signal strength shown for one of the channels that are breaking up. The ideal strength is between 50% and 70%. If it is less than 50% then the signal is probably too weak - you may have a fault with your aerial or the cabling. If it is above 70% then it is priobably too strong and you need to reduce that by fiutting an attenuator - you can get variable ones so you can adjust it for the best overall effect.

fozzy: Well, although I did suspect that you may already have carried out the "factory reset" procedure, but though the reason for suggesting it be repeated was simply to eliminate the possibility of said reset / retune having been previously carried out whilst maintenance work was being carried out at the transmitter, the possible effect of having resulted in some form of glitch having occurred in the tuners memory system whereby some listings were dropped.

A secondary reason for requesting same was really connected with having had another look at the manual for your TV, and in particular the multitude of options in the programme guide section, especially the ability to move channels to other positions etc, any slight mistake upsetting the proverbial apple cart.

Taking all into consideration, the best policy is always to start afresh.

That said, I also feel that the situation could be somewhat clarified if you tested your aerial system out using a bog standard TV of either an HD or non HD variety, retuning same on your aerial then checking to see it came up with the EPG listings missing from your Sony, as I suspect that it would!

jb38: Had a break through! after moving the Sony TV to the PC aerial and tuning without a reset all the missing channels (coms4?) appeared and are still viewable when returned to the original aerial. However the PC TV is still unable to find the missing channels (coms4?)on either aerial any ideas?
I have the ability to change the start end frequency then scan frequency and range separately what feq range should i be using? by default its set to scan Mendip UK from 746200khz to 842000khz is this the problem? as I have no idea.
Thank you again for your help and patience.

fozzy : Pleased to see that retuning on the alternative aerial has enabled you to capture the hitherto elusive channels. However, as far as tuning ranges are concerned, I'm at a bit of a loss to understand exactly how Mendip comes into the equation? was this station mentioned anywhere in the tuning menu? as the frequency range you stated would only capture two of Mendips multiplexes.

Re your query on the tuning range to use, if you want to use this facility rather than just leave the auto-scan on normal, then Winter Hills channel span is from Mux C31/ 554.0Mhz (COM7) to Mux C59 / 778.0Mhz (ITV1).

If the TV tuning range was found to have been set to scan between 746.0Mhz and 842.0 Mhz (the latter being outside of DTT's range) then this would indeed have excluded a large number of channels from being stored, options such as this being my reason for suggesting a reset being carried out (which also involves tuning) rather than just a normal retune, as reset would have cancelled the tuning range restrictions before the auto-tune

Apart from that, now that more is known about the system you are using, what type (make / model) of tuning stick are you using in the PC?. And on the subject of aerials, what types of aerials are you using?

jb38:I didn't explain properly it is a different supply from the same aerial so quite how it made a difference I don't know. The aerial is a high gain that's about all I know about it with a booster fitted at the closest point possible in the loft.

The PC based card is a TBS6205 DVB-T2/T/C Quad TV Tuner PCIe Card
TBS6205 DVB-T2/T/C Quad TV Tuner PCIe Card

Running DVB Pro DVB viewer - the best PC software for TV and Radio reception - Home which with help now on the forum Ive updated the Mendip manually to using TransEdit- Main Window which maybe of use to you or others. Unfortunately it now seems that the dvbpro software as of yet doesn't support these new format of tv streaming and from what Ive read no PC software does which I find astounding.

Thank you kindly again for all your help its been invaluable, if and when there is any advances in the software availability I will update you.

fozzy: You can add the streams directly to TransEdit 4.1.0 Beta.

See Arqiva IPTV Streams (inc Motors TV) - Freeview - Digital Spy Forums

Copy the text in the Code box to a new text file.

In the TransEdit menu, go to Info->Configuration Folder and save it as dttstreams.m3u to the Transponders folder.

Close TransEdit.

Run TransEdit; dttstreams should now appear in the left window pane.

Select dttstreams and, in the right window pane, double-click the stream you want (Motors TV).

TransEdit will connect to the internet and a Scanner window will open with 'service1' at the top.

Double-click 'service1' to play the stream.

js: Thanks very much for the information!
Could you please go into a little more detail as Ive done all you've said and Im not seeing the new file listed in the transedit column, if I try to load it manually it says unrecognised file type. Am I supposed to make the file using notepad? and what format should it be saved in? as everything Ive tried has no effect.

fozzy: Yes, try this: Open notepad and paste the following into it:

#EXTINF:0,Motors TV
http://stream.arqiva.tv/m…rstv

Save it and rename to MotorsTV.m3u

You can play it with VLC media player, mpc-hc, etc.
