Melanie Slater: What do you mean by it was too small? Do you mean the connector that pushes into the aerial socket on the back of the TV? Could you also clarify if you're now trying a set top aerial?

Robert Tidy: You might be able to get some channels on an indoor aerial, however you would be far better off using a rooftop aerial as although there are multiple transmitters predicted to be receivable at your postcode, none of them are predicted to provide a strong signal.

Darren: Please provide a full postcode so that we can see where you are in relation to each transmitter and the predicted coverage at your location.

Robert |Tidy:

Ypu are too far away from the Sudbury transmitter to get reasonable reception using an indoor aerial. You need to have a connection to your outdoor aerial with a feed into the room where the new TV will be placed. You cannot just 'break into' the existing aerial cables (that would ruin the reception of all the TVs!) but you must use an active splitter, perhaps such as the 3-way amplifier/splitter here - Online TV Splitters, Amps & Diplexers sales

Using my tv's signal condition function I went through all available channels to see what's going on and on the whole the majority were 100% for strength and quality, however the channels that are on com7 and 8 multiplexes were funcualting up and down but ok for the picture and sound to be ok to view. Some were 0% for quality and 93% for strength and this caused a no signal issue. So that's the issue I have sometimes com7 and 8 are ok even though the strength & quality is going up/down, other times the same channel is 0% for quality but 93% for strength resulting in a no signal situation. Is the issue my end or crystal palace's end or both? Yes the aerial is pointing at crystal palace and is a wide band one.

NasS:

The issue is at your end as the Crystal Palace transmitter, servicing more than 4 million homes, has no faults at present.

For some TVs, 100% signal strength is too high and some don't even like 90%. So it will be worth trying to reduce the strength a little to test what happens. Use a 3 dB coaxial attenuator fitted in the signal feed by adding a separate flylead with the attenuator at the joint between your original aerail cable and the flylead, the other end of the flylead being plugged into your TV's input socket. Then recheck the signal strengths fo all multiplexes again and observe what the effect on the pictures and sound is like. DO NOT RETUNE.

Just to add I can understand if I was near the transmitter but I am about 34 km away so too much signal shouldn't be a problem I would of thought however I have ordered the atteuator as you said which I will give a go. Also checked all channels last night and all good, the affected ones were showing low signal strength and quality but picture and sound was ok. You would not know the signal was soo low the picture and sound were that good without any break up. Both com 7 & 8 multi plexes are less power that the other ones so that might have a bearing on my issue.
