Freeview reception at BN8 5PS

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Pauline Bell:

It's never advised to retune when you have no signal, it usually just clears your correct tuning and you end up needing to retune again when you have a signal.

See my reply to you here - I have now lost all signal can you tell me what the problem might be? | free and easy

Just tuned in a new tv. I dot seem to be picking up any COM4 or COM5 channel. No problem with previous tv. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the transmitter?

Andrew: Do you still get the channels on the old TV if you plug it back in without retuning? We need to know where you are (please provide a full postcode) or which transmitter you're using to be able to check for any reported faults or engineering work.

Andrew:

This could be due to current weather conditions - temperature Inversion/tropospheric ducting to be precise, some of the predictions show there is currently some quite variable but strong conditions affecting parts of central England.
It sometimes comes with high pressure How does good weather affect my television? | Help receiving TV and radio & Effect of tropospheric ducting on Freeview | Help receiving TV and radio

This type of ducting affects different frequencies by differing amounts in different locations, which is possibly why you are only currently seeing an issue with COMs 4 & 5. It can vary by the second or be stable for much longer periods. It can also affect FM & DAB radio & probably mobile phone signals but not to an extent that people have realised.

If you happen to use the Waltham transmitter, try a manual tune on UHF channels C29 and C37 for those two multiplexes as manual tuning will sometime resolve them when signals are suffering some interference as long as it's not severe at the time.

William Utley :

Well according to the Freeview Checker you should be getting very good signals from the Bilsdale Quarry mast.
Check that your aerial is still pointing the correct way - bearing 24 degrees ~NNE, in your locale. The rods (or squashed Xs) should be horizontal. Check that the downlead is secure and not flapping in the wind.
Check you coax plugs and leads are correctly plugged in etc.

Try a retune as follows - unplug the aerial and do an automatic retune which should clear all previous tuning as nothing should be found. Plug the aerial back in and repeat the process and hopefully all your channels will be correctly restored.

If you are still having problems, check in your TV tuning section that you are tuned to the correct channels for Bilsdale -
The UHF channels are C27, C24, C21, C43, C46, C40, C55 that's in the multiplex order
BBC A/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBC B HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ARQ A/COM5, ARQ B/COM6, COM 7

Otherwise post back with more information about your aerial and any distribution amp/splitter etc.

Good morning,
I don't have a working aerial its hanging off the roof. They don't seem to last in the winter months. I've been using my son xbox to watch netflix and now tv.
I was considering a in door aerial but wasn't sure if, one they are any good? and two what the signal range would I need to get. I do have a old smart TV, so I would have to get a freeview box as well.
Thanks for your help.
With kind regards
Mrs.J Travell
