Update on my situation. I took the tv to richer sounds today. They hooked it up channel scanned and there they were all the HD channels so no problem with the tv. Clearly a problem with the aerial in the block. So it looks like I'll be going without HD channels. May phone an engineer out and see how much it is going to cost.

Cheers for the help on here

Graham Guthrie: Many thanks for the update as I was curious as to what the outcome would be as you had exhausted all avenues that could be explored whereby the only way the problem was likely to be sorted out was by an engineer making on on-site visit.

Hi,

I have a Sony bravia TV about a year old that till yesterday has had impeccable reception, even though the aerial is a basic indoor type. All of a sudden, the BBC channels (C23 I think) are cutting in and out, lots of blockiness etc. Same applies to the Sony video, again previously excellent reception. Channel 23 shows a lower signal than the others, about 70-80 percent, but the 'quality' is shown as sometimes down to 5-10 percent, although this seems to shift if we're moving about. All aerial connections are good, as are the other channels signals and nothings been touched recently. Did a retune; no change.

My first thought was 4G switched on in the area i the last few days, especially as the dropout seems intermittent. But the lowish signal strength suggests otherwise. As far as I know I'm tuned to Crystal Palace, and there's no amplifier on the aerial. I've tried 2 or 3 other aerials from Maplin in the past, but stuck with this as the signal is actuall better strength.

Any ideas appreciated!

My postcode is E7 9HJ

Mark

Mark E7: You should be getting an excellent signal, as you say, even with a portable aerial (normally a pain). Signal strength should be around 70-80%, not 100% - its not your strength which is too low, its the quality. I'm going to suggest my normal solution - high signal strength? Having said that, Sony tuners are really robust.

Hopefully, someone can come up with another suggestion, but whjy not dig out another portable aerial and see if it makes any difference?

Mark E7: Albeit that this is something I always ask people complaining about similar problems to yourself before suggesting carrying out any tests, but have you as yet verified with any others in your immediate locality if they are also experiencing difficulties with their reception? as dependant on answer from it could save you from carrying out needless checks on your system.

By the way, 4g interference (or the pre-service testing of should it apply) can cause receivers to give low strength indications as a result of the powerful 4g signal swamping the tuner, that said I cannot see and transmitters (4G or otherwise) being close enough to your location to cause this sort of problem.

mick: I think your making work for yourself. Your new aerial is probably pointing at Lark Stoke (bearing 344 degrees), which is your nearest transmitter (only 11km away), and your best bet (although Sutton Coldfield is only 7 degrees off that).

The TV will normally self tune to either the strongest signal, or the lowest channel number. Since Lark Stoke is only channel 26 and is very close, thats the one it should go to. Dont worry too much about signal strength - signal quality should be 9-10, and strength actually around 75%, but that will vary with different channels (BBC tend to be pretty strong). Just let the TV do its thing, and everything will probably be fine.

Please Help!
Ive been receiving Freeview on my PC-TV using a Hauppauge T500 Card and Windows7 Pro OS with WMC this set up has been making timed recordings correctly for several years.
Over the past 12 months, the PC/TV was only used very occasionally.
As I intend to use the PC/TV during this winter I checked it and it does work but the EPG is only showing the correct Program Data on about 30% of channels, other channels show No Data Available. This problem is not confined to one multiplex.
Every one of the TV & Radio channels give sound and vision OK but no Program Data, but for use as a PVR the EPG is essential.
I have tried all the usual tricks to get it to reload the correct EPG Data on all channels, including retuning without the aerial connected and Default, but I guess I must be doing something wrong, any ideas please?

Martin:

Hi,

Although not familiar with pc tv tuners I do regularly come across this issue.

It is generally down to the age of the equipment and the age of the software.

equipment around 4/5 years old tend to struggle with this issue.

If you cant update the software you may need to change the tuner.

regards
