Freeview reception at NR13 3QS

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

EE,  Multiple operators,  O2,  3,  Vodafone,  location on line-of-sight,  Selected location,  Freeview transmitter,  Freeview light transmitter,  Engineering/fault today.

These icons show the potential locations for 5G-at-700MHz services that may interfere with Freeview reception. For actual mobile device reception prediction (at 800-960MHz and 1710-2170MHz) see these phone operator's mapping sites: Three O2 EE VM

DaveH:

another bit of advice.

Its not always the highest point for good reception

sometimes you can fit on another part of the building and get a better line of sight

even a different corner of the chimney can make the difference

jamie stevens: Cheers Jamie, I'm having an absolute 'mare sorting this out. Affects 3 different sets, 3 different brands, panasonic, toshiba and sony.
Signal path: Aerial>4g filter>Sky box>amp/splitter> the 3 tv's
Was perfect about 2 weeks ago
Then started getting breakup at various times of day, not consistent with night/day or wet/dry etc
No nearby building works or trees interfering
We are at the limit for Hannington but as I say we had no bother a few weeks ago.
Had a new digital aerial about a year ago
Today fitted a 4g filter after your earlier post (we have 3 4g tx'rs within .4km) between aerial and sky box, no effect, have got little nikkai camping tv out and tried dtv tuning, it gets as far as ch47 682mhz and hangs after finding 62tv and 15radio channels. Something weird going on there perhaps? - Oops no - its just finished tuning and it has found the missing channels. So either a tuning issue or an intermittent external problem
Time will tell
Thanks again for the advice

Surely it is not worthwile installing new aerials when there are so many ENGINEERING works going on across the country. The signals for Digital seem to be less than acceptable in most locations at present according to many posts on this site, and the map for Scheduled Works and Faults show the majority of transmitters being effected.

I would be waiting until they have finished the work on the Transmitter that you are trying to gain a signal from - as no matter how hard you try the best you'll get will be dictated by the signal being sent - and if you are trying when there is none.. well your essentially 'bu$$ered

mr k fisher: Assuming that your aerial points to Divis then bring up the signal strength screen and check that it is tuned to Divis and not the Bangor relay.

Divis broadcasts those services on C21 and Bangor is on C50. If it turns out to be tuned to the latter then run the automatic tuning scan and unplug the aerial when it gets to 30%. Once the scan completes plug the aerial back in. Then check that it is tuned to Divis for UTV.

I have yet to be convinced that digital is better.

We have frequent picture freeze, fragmentation and loss of signal.
We have to retune two of our sets on a weekly basis and a third one at least once a month.

Is this digital technology in need of further investment and development or are we going to have to live with this situation for a long time.

IF we install a Freeview sat. How do we connect this the multiple sets? I assume there is an easy way, as many hotels seem to have lots of sets with the service.

John Green:

You cannot get a Freeview sat

you have Freeview via an aerial or Freesat via a dish

If you have Freesat then you need a cable from the dish to each location that you have a tv and will also need a freesat receiver at each tv

With regards to retuning your tv regularly this is a waste of time, if you have reception issues then retuning will simply delete and add channels according to what the system can see at the time of the retune.

It definitely does not fix your reception issues.

Can anyone help?

The works on the transmitter have allegedly finished now - but now i have NO SIGNAL AT ALL!!

What did they do to the Mendip Transmitter?

Before the work my Sony Digibox showed a 'FULL' signal strength and 'EXCELLENT' quality, now it is 'AVERAGE' signal strength and 'POOR QUALITY' (in fact next to no quality at all).

My BT Vison box is not getting any signal at all.

I don't believe an aerial could fail overnight - and thus logic dictates that they have done something to the signal that comes from the transmitter...

Can anyone tell me what they did?
Have they lowered the power or something?
Have they started transmitting something else that may interfere with the freeview/vision stuff?

Anyone?

Hooded Oracle:
I am on the Mendip transmitter and have had no problems at all in North Wiltshire.
I suggest you ask neighbours whether they have/are having any reception problems with Freeview (make sure they don't mistake FreeSat or Sky for the Mendip Freeview transmissions).
Also, giving a post code and equipmend models will help.
