Freeview reception at IP31 2SY

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

David, thanks for your advice. I've tried tuning into 698MHz but couldn't pick up anything, which presumes I can't pick anything up from Waltham...

Louis : Just a little point with regards to your test on 698Mhz, when you entered the frequency into your TV or boxes "manual" tune facility you should really have hesitated before pressing search or scan, as on most equipment if any signal is being received then no matter how low its strength or quality might be the level will appear on the relevant indicator bars immediately after having entered the channel frequency (or number) as the tuner is simply acting like a form of signal meter free of cut off thresholds, this only coming into play as soon as search or scan is pressed and is the reason why that some people might find that although a signal was being indicated on the signal bars prior to searching its subsequently discovered that nothing has been stored in the EPG list.

The reason for pointing this out being, that "if" any reception from Waltham is possible then it will be suffering from a high level of attenuation due to the fact that its being received on an aerial that's only 17 degrees away from its (or any!) aerials null spot of 90 degrees from the incoming signal, plus the other aspect being that the signal is being received via the aerials rear pick up and which also adds to the attenuation referred to.

Hi, I have a Samsung 22 inch led tv. Recently channels 43 Stv, channels 4 and 5 etc all started failing and losing signal. The picture stalls and breaks up and sound crackles. I have a loft aerial and all cabling seems fine. All other channels tune correctly. Can anyone advise please?
I have tried a retune and clearing the channel memory etc with a factory reset etc but to no avail.

Thanks.

Louis: In your initial post (Thursday 31 October 2013 1:33PM) your last question was how can you get East Midlands news back.

If you previously had it at this address then perhaps you were lucky. If it was at a previous address whose aerial pointed to Sutton Coldfield then perhaps you received BBC and ITV from the Derby relay.

Some parts of Derby can't receive from Waltham, but can receive from Sutton Coldfield. To address the issue that these people got West Midlands programming, a transmitter was built at the Fire Service Headquarters at Littleover. This relays Waltham's PSBs (and therefore BBC One East Midlands and ITV Central East) and broadcasts directionally towards Derby. See the map for coverage: Derby (Derby, England) Freeview Light transmitter | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice (don't be drawn too much as to whether you're inside or outside the green area - use it as a guide only.)

Because of its location, Sutton Coldfield and it are on roughly the same bearing in the target area and therefore a single aerial pointing somewhere between the two allows reception of both. If you previously lived in that area then you could have had your aerial pointing to Sutton Coldfield whilst being able to receive East Midlands programming.

Judging by the coverage map you may be on the fringes. You could try scanning for its BBC One on C48 (690MHz) and ITV on C51 (714MHz).

Do as jb38 says and enter the frequency and then wait to see if it gives any indication of strength and quality before pressing the button to scan (which could be "OK" or "add services" or something similar).

Derby, like Waltham, is close to being at 90 degrees from the direction your aerial is facing, that is to the side, and the aerial is least sensitive 90 degrees to where its facing (which is what jb38 was referring to when he talked about the "null spot").

We have just moved. 11.5km north west of Bluebell Hill and 35.5km east of Crystal Palace. Houses here have tall aerials and seem divided in choice of transmitter. We had a booster/splitter fitted, to which three TVs are connected. The reception on two of them is perfect and they show South East News. HOWEVER, the lounge TV is through a BT Vision box and tries to give us the East Anglian News. I say "tries" because the signal strength is SO weak that the picture is constantly breaking up! This applies mainly to the BBC channels and BT Sport. Can anyone explain this? (PS. Tried to do Manual Tune but TV won't allow me)

Dennis : So does the BT Vision box tune correctly to Bluebell Hill or is it giving Anglia?

You've already given the answer to your question: you're in a difficult reception area for Bluebell Hill and Crystal Palace.

Looking at the OS map, in the direction of Bluebell Hill the ground rises up towards Starmore Wood. Whilst the Anglia transmitters are further away there is probably a clearer path between you and them.

If your aerial was on Crystal Palace then I would suggest unplugging the aerial after your TV has scanned its channels as they are all in the first third of the band, with Anglia's being in the middle third. Unfortunately those of Bluebell Hill and Rouncefall/Sudbury (the transmitters which broadcast Anglia together on the same channels) are interleaved.

If your TV has manual tuning then why isn't it allowing you to do it? What is the result?

We have been experiencing loss of Chanel's over weekends for weeks now. It usually starts on a Friday afternoon, seems to affect itv channels and lasts through till Sunday evening. We have an old Ariel in the loft. Was going to call an engineer..... But when the channels return the work perfectly. Advice please.

I have Freeview coming off a communal (high!) roof-top dish into my flat and have been getting bad interference on all four BBC TV channels for the last few days. Apparently we (EN11 postcode) are on the Crystal Palace transmitter which is showing 'interruption' on this site, but I'm not sure if that means interference or complete loss of service.
I have re-scanned a couple of times but have no improvement and all other channels are okay. Will this resolve or do I need to report it to the landlord? It's pretty unwatchable at the moment.
