My Sky box has a no signal message - what do I do?
published on UK Free TV

If you are getting the message "no signal" this would indicate that there is a problem with the signal from your dish into your box. Even without a card inserted into a Sky Digibox, if there is a signal, you will always get Sky Guide and the free channels.

Try powering off your box, remove the card, check carefully the cables, especially the connection to the dish, reapply the power and then when asked to insert your card you should then be able to see (for example) Sky News on 501 and the BBC News channel on 503.

Once you can see any channel, reinsert your card. This should, after about one minute, give you the channels you expect, such as 103, 104 and 105.

There are three ways you can attempt to reset your box. Please see What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' ?.

If you continue to get "No signal", you dish may have been misaligned, or there may be a fault with the cables and connectors, or a problem with the Digibox. You can see the signal strength by pressing SERVICES, then 4-SYSTEM SETUP and 6-SIGNAL STRENGTH.

Cheers for all of the great infoI found it useful in resolving my "no signal" on Sky HD+ box scenario.

I had 0 signal; 0 strength on both LNBs
After all of the usual rigamarole Sky were gonna leave me to call an engineer for £65, being unable to offer any more assistance...

After a bit of reading around here, I increased the ventilation and simply swapped inputs 1&2 around and re-booted the box, hey-presto.

I currently have no signal being received on my sky+ hd box. At first it states the number 25 in the top right, then I put it on standby and switched it back on it said 30. Repeated again and it said 10. I called sky cs they got me to do a software download. This didn't resolve the issue and when I switched it back on it said initialising and then goes off to a blue screen. And when I press tv guide it states searching for listings. I called back and he suggested resetting the box (which would delete everything) as he could not guarantee this would work I refused this option. I have just checked the signal as stated above and the bars are empty. My postcode is M50 1DH. I live in flats and have a communal dish. I don't know anyone to ask if they're having the same problems, the weather is dry. I was not receiving certain channels a few months back (universal, disney, e) and an engineer came and sorted that as I wasn't receiving 1 of the 4 channels. The cs person said to take my box to someone elses house (yes seriously) to see if it's the box or the dish so I'm going to try it at my cousins tomorrow. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot afford to spend another 65 quid on an engineer.

Dionne: Well although satellite TV whether it be Sky or Freesat can suffer from a range of problems, they are not by any means as difficult to diagnose as say Freeview TV where signals can very quite considerably over relatively short distances, satellite reception NOT suffering in this respect.

If when your box is tested out at someone else's house (hopefully NOT in the same block as yourself) and it works OK then you must have some problem with the dish feed to your apartment, that is "if" the jumper leads you are using from the wall plate to the box have been checked as being OK.

If though your box does prove as being defective then its most likely caused by the usual power supply defect whereby low voltage is fed to the tuner.

As usual when there is the slightest breeze or additionally heavy rain the signal cuts out. Today it is wind. Why is this digital signal so substandard when compared to the old type method of sending programmes?
Why is there no telephone number we can call instead of this silly method of contacting you?

Baz: This is virtually impossible to happen on a Sky box, are you sure that this message is not coming from the TV that the Sky box is connected into?

Whilst you are viewing BBC press: Services - 4 - 6 and check what signal levels are being indicated, as both strength and quality have to be about the equivalent of 55% minimum for satisfactory reception.

Hi I connected up a second sky box and I have checked everything and I'm getting no signal , my other sky + box is working perfect. And I have switched around connections and checked the box , everything working fine. But still can't get a signal, the only channel I'm getting is BBC news even though there is no signal strength . Any ideas as to what's wrong ?

Fiona: Not quite sure what is meant by "switched around connections", but you should temporarily try the Sky box in question in the Sky+ boxes position using one (any one) of the two feeds used by the Sky+ box, as that's the only way of verifying if the standard Sky box is OK or not.

If by the way, your Sky+ box is an HD type and uses an HDMI connection into the TV, then temporarily use a scart lead between the TV and the standard Sky box.

Further advice dependant on the outcome of the test.

Of course, all that's been said is on the assumption that when you press "services" on the Sky boxes remote control you can see the menu on the TV that its coupled into? as what you have reported could suggest that the BBC is being received on the actual TV and NOT the Sky box.

Hi please help. I have sky multiroom with Sky+HD downstairs and a sky+ box upstairs. Recently The downstairs box stopped working. First message said no signal and when I checked the signal strength it said nothing on Input 1, but fine on input 2. I switched the box off at the wall, and when it came back on I had no signal in either.

I have checked the cable and it seems to be fine, and have refitted all 4 F connectors.

I have also ran a spare cable (3 different times with 3 different cables) from the dish to the TV and this is still showing no signal.

I have taken the HD box upstairs and checked it on the upstairs line and it works fine

I have also tried connecting the downstairs cable to the ports on my Octo LNB, that are working for the upstairs box but again it is no signal.

I can deduce the following

Box is fine as it works on the upstairs cables

LNB is fine as the ports work one box but not the other

Therefore it must be the cable, but it would be a strange co-incidence if 4 separate cables did not work?

I am at a loss. Can anyone help
