My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.
Neil T: The issue is that the receiver has chosen to go with the Yorkshire signal from Emley Moor instead of Tyne Tees from Bilsdale. They are only 40 degrees apart from one another at your location.
Emley has switched over and so its digital signal is on its final high power whereas Bilsdale is still on pre-switchover low power.
The answer is to run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial plugged in up until 25%, then unplug it. That way you will have the aerial lead unplugged when it's scanning Emley Moor frequencies.
You will need to then manually add Mux D which is on Ch42 and within the channels used by Emley.
Come switchover on 26th September you might find that it the full auto-tune will result in Bilsdale being stored in the standard logical channel positions and Emley being stored in the 800s. Personally I always check that I have the right channels tuned.
If you don't want to risk picking up Emley Moor after switchover, then run the scan as before, with the aerial plugged in up until 25%.
Then you will need to manually add the three commercial multiplexes from Bilsdale on Ch43, Ch46 and Ch40.

Neil T: The above applies if the aerial is pointing at Bilsdale (145 degrees). If it's Pontop Pike which is at 322 degrees then run the scan with the aerial unplugged up until 65%.
You will need to manually add Ch48 (Mux1/BBC), Ch53 (MuxD), Ch55 (Mux2/ITV/C4).
The other channels used by Pontop Pike are Ch59, Ch62, Ch63 (these should hopefully have been picked up with the scan, so you shouldn't need to add them).

Thanks for the various suggestions for fixing my Philips DTR210 digital box.
I've tried everything, with no difference and the block of channels simply vanishes once the unit is turned off. I have discovered that it's possible to get them back by a quick manual tune at 59, but they only stay until the box is turned off.
A borrowed digital box works in its place with no difficulty.
So, I now think it's time to give up on this particular problem and just put it down to yet another unreliable piece of equipment.
Thanks for trying to help anyway,
Bill

Bill: Well if you have carried out a factory reset, which scrubs everything stored in the memory, and after re-scanning you find that it still loses channels when switched off, then there isn't really anything else you can do except to retire the box as it suggests that a fault has developed in its memory system, or alternatively that you are still picking up more channels than its memory can store, something that can happen when using a box with limited memory capacity in areas where more than one station can be picked up.

Bill: As a matter of interest try doing a factory reset, then scan with the aerial unplugged, after which do a manual tune on C59, so that should be the only set of channels stored. Retention or loss of the stored channels would show up whether it is a memory capacity problem or something associated with the errant mux or C59 perhaps.

I have a Philips DTR200/5
I am havening similar issues at Bill.
I seem to lose itv1 channel 4 etc every day.
I have wiped the device and retuned (new installation) it gets over 100 channels about 115 I think. I have deleted unwanted channels to take it below 100 (77). When I restart the box now I dont loose the channels ie I can select them but once on the channel it is a back screen.
Any ideas that does not involve getting a new box.
I am in west mids (stourport on severn)

Jim C: Although you have obviously cured the excess channels in memory problem that these older Philips boxes can suffer from, as far as this problem is concerned it could be caused by another reason connected to signal level, as a test p/code (Co-op post office / Tan lane) indicates that its possible to receive from various sources in your area.
What to do is carry out a signal strength check whilst on BBC1, noting the level and channel number associated with it, then do the same on the blank EPG3 / 4 positions noting their levels / channel numbers, as the signal might still be there but just at a lower level which is below the reception threshold for the box, and which "might" be because they are not being received from the same station.
Once done give an update on results including the channel numbers seen, as these can then be cross checked to determine if they originate from the same source.

Dave Lindsey: Thanks for the advice. I will get round there soon and follow your instructions for Pontop Pike. I will let you know how i get on.

Wokingham
Location: Wokingham Berks RG41 5fe. I have a SONY KDL-32S3000. FREEVIEW built in. Aerial in loft.
Hello all,
Similarly to trevor brown we retuned on the 27th of December and now are unable to receive any of the first 10 channels amongst many others. We have tried every option including a full factory reset and retune, so we have become stuck.
Is there an issue with our aerial? It was installed around 6 years ago and I read somewhere about a wide band digital aerial receiver now in use. Do you think that the aerial we have is too old now? Or perhaps the hannington transmitter is undergoing repair? We can receive analog signal ok.
Does anyone have any ideas?
