To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I am in BS49 5BY just outside Bristol and have sound only on the 48 tuning, which I've seen named Group 3 or A. Everything else is fine, but I keep getting a Please Wait for 48, which never resolves!! Any ideas, please?

Since the work on the Mendip transmitter on 28 September I have lost some channels that were fine before. I have cleared and re-scanned as recommended several times but the result is the same. I've Lost Dave, Dave+1, ITV3, 5* and Five USA, and a few others. Plus the channel numbers are not in order (EG: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15 and so on...)

My postcode is BS8 1DU

I have an old Philips DTR210/05 set top box. It's been ok after numerous retunes over the last 2 years. Last week, the retune after the final Sutton Coldfield switch-off picked up all the usual channels so having checked all seemed normal, I put it in standby. Next time I switched on, nearly all channels had disappeared. After many retunes and getting the same result after standby on/off, I called Philips. They said it's an old box and doesn't have enough memory for all the new channels (odd as it was fine after the first half of the Sutton switch-off). Advice was to retune, then delete a few channels and it should be ok. Didn't work - I retuned (with aerial out, then again with aerial back in), deleted all radio plus all porn/shopping garbage and got down to just 26 channels but it still couldn't save them after switching to standby and on again. Any ideas? Can only think that the digibox is faulty

Syd Wall: Try manual tuning, but not in the "conventional" order. If you're on the Sutton Coldfield transmitter tune UHF channel 43 first (for BBC1 & 2), then 46 (for ITV, Ch4 etc.) then 42, 35 & 39. Hopefully, the last channels tuned will be the ones that get "dropped" by your box, and the first ones will be retained.

Briantist, I've already cleared the channel list. I have even carried out a "first time installation" on my LCD TV (Freeview built-in), which clears all the channels, and scans for the new channels.

I've unplugged the aerial, scanned for new channels, cleared all the channels, unplugged TV from power and left unplugged for a few minutes, replugged the aerial in and the power lead for TV, carried out first time installation scan, BUT having the same problem... Channels missing, and the number list show channels missing!

John white: Please contact whoever provides your communal aerial system, you will probably find that everyone else has the same problem.

Hi All. Following the 28 September event at Mendip we lost channels. Following all the retune advice described above (and elsewhere) did not improve matters. However a "Factory Reset" seems to have done the trick, although this option had not been suggested on the screen, on-line or on any of the posters I have seen. Hope this helps others.
