To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

keith: When you say the first ten channels, are you meaning EPG programme channel numbers?

You generally only scan with the aerial out to blank out anything already stored, this done before carrying out an auto-tune of the type whereby the aerial is plugged back in again at a certain point, or alternatively performing a manual tune of the individual Mux's required.

You really have to give more information though to enable anyone to assist, the info being in the form of the TV or box being used, and also your location, (post code) this to enable checking on the Multiplexes in use associated with your area.

barry: Most likely power to the distribution amplifier failed - perhaps a blown fuse or tripped circuit-breaker? Report it to the landlord or management agent.

At that location, I would expect an indoor aerial to be pretty reliable.

Hi

We had all the digital channels until a couple of days ago on 3 of our TV's in the house. One of our TV's lost the channel band that carries fiver, 5* etc. I tried another TV, which seemed to have them but then re-scanned and lost them. The TV up stairs still has them and i daren't do a re-scan on that. Having re-scanned the other two it would appear i can only get channel bands 1,2 & 3, not the A-D as listed. I am in MK14 5QR milton Keynes.

I have tried the procedure above several times and it has not affect. We have an outside aerial which seems to work fine for BBC1 etc.

any help is greatly appreciated

Is the BBC mux down in central Scotland (Blackhill transmitter)?

Everything else seems fine but both digibox and digital TVs have stopped showing BBC channels since last night. Yesterday afternoon it was choppy. Retuning just means the channel list starts with ITV and the BBC ones don't even appear.

Dave: With reference to the info seen on Briantist's link, as far as 5* etc is concerned your problem is likely because the lower powered Mux Ch31 from Sandy (which 5* etc uses) is also temporarily used by Crystal Palace for their HD service, something that causes intermittent problems for people who reside at various in- between locations (albeit you offset slightly) and are receiving a Mux Ch31 signal from either transmitter.

Apart from waiting until the present atmospheric conditions that's liable to be causing the problem somewhat improve, I would completely scrub everything stored in the EPG list then carry out a manual tune on Mux Ch31, then after storing anything received do the same on the other lower powered Mux channels Ch67 & Ch48, or alternatively after storing Mux Ch31 just use whatever procedure your equipment has to find the extra channels without scrubbing what's already stored.
