To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;



2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;



3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;



5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;



6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;



7) do a complete scan for channels again.



The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Well, this would depend on how much of a DIY dab hand you may be.
Your current "small aerial" - are we talking about one that's in the room, maybe on top of the set or nearby? (Or is it a small aerial that is already in the loft - I'm guessing by the set).
Where is the loft in relation to the TV, are you in a bungalow or house with two floors?
In any event we really need a full postcode (or one for a very nearby shop/pub etc) to see what your predicted reception should be to be able to judge the practicalities.

Mags: I agree with Chris. Plus generally outside antennas are not suitable for inside a living room. They are quite big (typically 3 ft long.
This type of indoor aerial fits on top of the set Set top TV aerial (UHF 470 to 850 MHz) - A.T.V. Poles, Brackets, Clamps & Aerials
That supplier/shop is very communicative and answers emails - so you might be able to get appropriate advice from him direct (his name is Justin Smith)

Whilst I have recommended Justin's organisation to others on a number of occasions, what is important here is how good a signal you are predicted to get (that's why we need the postcode).

One assumes that you currently get quite a good signal if you are already using a set-top aerial (not sure why David thinks you are using an outside aerial in your living room!) and I wouldn't be thinking of just recommending another set-top aerial if you occasionally have problems with some channels.

Whilst Justin provides very high quality products (carriage to pay on top) if you get a very good signal, for a loft install you probably wouldn't need anything as elaborate and such high quality as Justin provides, after all in a loft install we don't have crows, magpies and pigeons sitting on it to bend elements etc.
What is particularly important is using high quality coax cable from the aerial to set.

There are plenty of aerials that will comfortably fit in a loft if your signals are good enough.
Which channels is it you occasionally have problems with?

We are constantly losing all BBC channels on our freeview TV which seem to occur whenever there is
Any poor weather in the area. The signal usually returns some 12 hours or so later. We retune and clear the cache on our tv but it is a constant annoyance. Have you any suggestions. We have an Ariel situated in the loft space. This problem has been ongoing for almost a year. Have you any suggestions?

I'm afraid we're going to need some more detail. We've no idea which transmiitter you may be receiving or what the predicted reception is in your locale. We're going to need a full postcode to check your predicted reception.

A loft aerial could mean you are more susceptible to variations in reception in wet weather if your signal is marginal.
If your TV is correctly tuned, there is absolutely no point in retuning, all you are likely to do is lose correct tuning if you have very low or no signal.

Does the loft aerial point through any party walls, or water tanks etc or are then any very near of metal objects such as flues or lead flashing on the roof?
As well as your postcode the rough compass bearing in which the aerial is pointing and whether the aerial rods (or squashed Xs) are vertical or horizontal would be useful information.

Do you have a distribution amp/splitter? Roughly how old is the whole installation?

I Live in Eckington, north east Derbyshire and for the last few days have had problems with receiving TV channels, mainly BBC but others too.

Is there a problem at the Belmont transmitter or has the weather something to do with it?

There are no reported problems I can find for Belmont. The weather was presenting a problem a couple of days ago, there was some Tropospheric Ducting which should have completely cleared yesterday.
Did you retune at all whilst you had no signal, or pixellated pictures etc. - If you did, you should never do that, it will most likely just clear your correct tuning and/or possibly leave you tuned to weak signals from another transmitter (there's 3 you might receive in some circumstances). If your set auto-retunes when there's no signal, turn that function off if possible, it's more trouble than it's worth.

Check in your TV's tuning section that you are tuned to the correct UHF channels.
The UHF channels for Belmont in the order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, ArqB/COM6, COM7; Local; are as follows -
C22, C25, C28; C30, C23, C26; C55; C32. You ought to be getting the first six of those, the predictor shows you should be getting good reception but you aren't predicted to get COM7 or the Local mux.

WE have lost signal for 10 minutes, between 20.00 and 20.30 tonight on the IDLE transmitter. WE have a humax recorder and a program set for this time failed to record, due to lack of signal.

Also we regularley lose signal daily on our TV for 1 minute very day at 09.31, but our signal comes through a humax box to start with and if this is turned on then we do not lose the signal.

Can you help please?
