My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi Mike,
Many thanks for your help. Whilst I was looking up the manual you suggested I thought I'd just reset the box one more time. This time it did tune the BBC1,2 etc channels, although the signal is very week and intermittent. Its as though i get every 4th or 5th frame. Other channels ie ITV etc are fine. Any ideas other than return the box?
I bought it through Amazon, I have been referred to a firm for support so think I can get some but due to work it won't be easy to do it in the day
time.
Any further pointers would be welcomed.

About a week ago I had to totally strip the lounge ( new carpet ! ) which obviously meant removing, then returning, tv / gramaphone / pvr etc. On reinstalling the pvr I get the message " Cannot record, signal is too weak ". I have TWO roof aerials, both less than 4 years old ( replaced following a lighting strike, one receiving Hannington, one receiving ( I think ) Crstal Palace. The machine is a Sharp TU-R160, again about 4 years old. Reception via the TU-160 tuner is perfect, no pixellation, and I have checked and remade all coax connections. Any ideas before I throw a potentially usable piece of kit away? postcode is RG4 9QL.
Many thanks

Have carried out the channel clearing procedure as above and my reception has improved greatly, thank you. But I still get the occasional blank screen & horizontal interference, my suspicion is that my Grundig GDT 1500T is not able to deal with the strength of the digital signal, manual retuning can get 8K but this returns to 2K when switched off, any comments are helpful.

I only live couple of miles from the kilearn transmitter. i get good BBC but lots of signal break up on STV/ITv channels
its a new loft aerial and I have tried retuning several times
is this due to reduced power

alex: I take it your loft aerial has been mounted vertically? (elements top to bottom) and that it isn't mounted where its facing into a water tank, as although loft aerials can be perfectly satisfactory in many locations they are more vulnerable to being affected by their surroundings.
Another aspect that should be kept in mind is that the transmitter output is restricted towards the South West of the transmitter, this mentioned should it apply as you haven't given an exact location.

I had lost Film 4 completely after the switch over on 6 July. Just unplugged, re scanned as suggested and found the channel again but "bad signal". Any ideas as to how to get the channel watch-able?
