My high gain aerial can't get all the Freeview channels I expected
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV You need a "wideband" aerial rather than a high gain one (see all about aerials). Also, if you use a signal booster in the setup, this can cause problems with digital signals.
Can I suggest that you try the following:
1. Check that all the connectors are OK, in particular that there are no stray wires and that both the outer shield and inner wire are connected;
2. If you are using any signal boosters, turn them off;
3. Check to see if you have anything like a VCR connected via a UHF fly lead - sometimes these can changed to use channels such as 68.
4. If you have a wideband aerial, if you can try raising it up an additional metre;

Hi all.
Just moved a small tv from the kitchen to a bedroom. The main tv in the front room had a booster at the back, which I removed and fitted a 2 way masthead amp, to ensure good signal on both tvs. Great pic but the tv in bedroom only has 10 channels ( itv's c4 c5 ) with signal strength of 80%. the tv in the front room has all the channels. Tried retuning but just keep getting 10 channels. Help please.

Our switchover has recently been carried out and whilst i can get all the channels in bedroom. None of the BBC channels can be tuned, in the lounge.
We are in block of apartments and I believe they are on different ariels. Any ideas?

CLBH: In practically every installation in the country no matter where the BBC should always be received, if its not then either a problem exists as far as signal overloading is concerned or the equipment being used to receive it is defective as far as certain technical aspects of it is concerned.
As you have not given your location (pref: post code) the signal strength expected at it cannot be assessed, so if you give an update on this as well as the brand / model of equipment being used to receive Freeview further info can then be supplied as necessary.

Rich75: As you have not mentioned your location (pref: post code) the signal strength expected at it cannot be assessed, but "if" what you have reported is meaning that the BBC is not being received then this suggests that its multiplex is being received at an excessively high level thereby blocking the tuner in the device that's not receiving it.
As you wont be able to by-pass the mast head amp then I suggest you purchase an attenuator of about at least 10db or so and place that in line with the device not picking up BBC, however purely for a test you could try a set top aerial in the TV / box and carry out a re-tune to see if BBC is then received.
But more accurate info can be given if your post code is provided.

Hi all. I hope this isnt too simple a question but here goes. We purchased a TX42S30b tv from a new Panny store that opened. I have the full SKY package (SD only)feeding it. I transmit the signal through a Philips Wireless to the bedroom. I want to fit an DVBT2 connection also and have a mast on the front of the house facing to Crystal Palace. Unfortunately we have a tiled home and therefore its not easy to move the mast, Or fit an extended one to get above the other homes in the area. It is a right angled "Elbow" connection with enough clearnace behind for about 2 feet before the roof would interfere and currently is bolted to a solid Fascia. The run to the TV will be approximately 25 metres. My Post Code is RH11 8NR Can anyone advise on which aerial type or model and whether or not I will need to boost the signal.

I bought a new freeview tv and have not been able to tune in any channels via digi autotune. My two neighbours above have reception and one uses a similaar digital arial to me, the other has cable. i have tried tuning in loads of time but no luck. It can still pick up analogue, despite being a fuzzy picture. I dont think the new tv is faulty as it picks up the analogue channels; also i tried putting back my old tv with the digi box and that too wont now tune in, despite it working previous to my changing them over. The digital helpline says reception in my area(London) is good so I'm lost as no one knows what the problem is.

AKi: Although reception from Crystal Palace can be a bit iffy for some people, but by the fact of you being only located at 5 miles away from the station you have always to consider the possibility that your signal is strong to the extent that its overloading your TV's tuner, a very simple test for this being to try a standard non-amplified set top aerial into the set, as if overloading is the problem then a picture of sorts will be obtained. (after a re-tune whilst using the set top aerial)
Of course you also have to consider the other reason that could be responsible for your difficulties, that of being caused the wave of high pressure across the country and something which is causing problems for numerous people in many areas, no real cure being possible except to wait until the situation reverts to normal.
But though, when dealing with reception problems such as yours it always best to enquire locally if anyone else is having the same problems as yourself, as if they are then dont alter anything.

Hi. I have recently bought a Toshiba 22DV501 tv for a bedroom. I've had real problems keeping the multiplex channel 44 ( itv1,2,3,ch4,5 etc). My postcode iis Leeds LS8 and I think that is the Emsley Moor transmitter. I lost multiplex 44 last weekend and could not pick it up on a manual retune all week. I had the aerial man booked in to come today and hey presto the channels are back this morning! All other channels fine and the previous tv in this bedroom worked fine. All other tv's in house fine- it is just multiplex44 on this particular tv. Any coincidence with the good weather? Toshiba insist it is my aerial and not the tv and have said I need a higher gain antenna. Not sure what to do! Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

Char: Are you using one aerial for a number of rooms and if so, how is the feed distributed/split? Is there an amplifier to split the signal?
I'm not quite sure how likely it will be that you may be suffering from too high a signal level at your location, but it has certainly crossed my mind:

That said, the aerial man as a pro (I'm not), would surely have considered it as a possibility if he thought it might be.
