To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi, I live in Bournemouth (BH1), and sometime this weekend I lost a lot of my Freeview channels. Going by the list above I'm only getting Multiplex 1,2 and B.

I live in flats with a shared aerial on the roof.

I performed the reset procedure but this didn't solve the problem.

I can confirm this on 2 different tuners, although they are both using the shared aerial.

Is there anyone else in the area having a problem? Any ideas to try?

Next port of call would be the building managers to have the aerial checked I suppose.

Thanks.

Hi, I live in RH11, am using Crystal Palace and keep losing channels over the last couple of weeks. According to other people nearby this only happens during peak times. Tried re-tuning last night and now have some channels (e.g. Yesterday and Film4) twice but had such a poor signal earlier this evening that my PVR wouldn't even play back programmes I had recorded previously. I am getting very frustrated with this - any suggestions?

Hi
We live in SO40 and use Rowridge transmitter. We have successfully received Freeview for over 2 years and on switchover retuned on March 7th with no apparent degradation to service.However, on the 21st March re-tune, we got significantly fewer channels, losing the ITV PSB MUX. However, over the last couple of days and following the reset recommended above, we have lost all service. Nothing has changed with our antenna system. Advice, please!

Adding my woes here: Living in Brighton Kemp Town, we have a comletely black screen, no menu, no static...nothing.
Had all the channels at the swichover, then pixels, then static now nothing! Retuned about 6 times in all...good working TV, Freeview box and aerial...but now don't know what to do. Whatever happened to the old fashined TV engineer?

Richard Walker: With such close proximity to the transmitter, the signal level going into your tuner could be too high for it to cope with.

Have a look here:

Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

Another thing to be aware of in your general area is that receivers may tune to Rowridge when doing their scan (because its signals are quite strong and/or because they will be found before Whitehawk when scanning). The trick here is to remove the aerial lead for the first 50% of the scan.

If you have a set-top aerial, then try it, at least as a test as it will pick up less signal, though whether it works will depend on location.

Martin Hart:
sorry if this sounds patronising, after clearing the channels/reset with the aerial unplugged, did you remember to plug the aerial back in when doing the re-tune part.
Also check your TV/box manual - I've seen some reports from some that no buttons should be pressed for at least 20 seconds after the re-tune to allow the TV/box to correctly store the data! (Glad mine isn't like that).

Sam in Bournemouth: Its not really possible with questions of this nature to offer any assistance with any level of accuracy without knowledge of your post code, (or somewhere very close to) this used for purposes of checking the level of signal expected in the area.

Sally:
As DSO is progressing and more transmitter go onto high power, it's possible you are picking up more than one transmitter and not just Crystal Palace (hence some channels twice).
With the current High pressure weather system your reception of PSB2 - main ITV mux - (in particular) could be marginal until DSO at Crystal Palace is complete on 18th April.

A complete reset (with the aerial unplugged) as described at the top of this page and then a Manual (not automatic) tune could be the solution to the duplicate channels, but read on first.

If you try this the current C.Palace uhf channels are C25,C22,C32,C34,C29,C28. However, I'm no PVR expert but I believe I have heard that some older PVR's may lose indexing to some previously recorded programmes after a re-tune. This may have happened and a manual tune to the correct C.Palace channels may resolve this. But it may also be worth trying to identify which non-C.Palace UHF channel(s) are giving you duplicate programmes and try deleting those first, instead of retuning.

If you post back which make and model PVR you have, maybe someone knowledgeable on that PVR may be able to comment. All I can say is best of luck.
