To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

2 or 3 weeks ago we lost all our analogue channels. Now we can't watch anything on TV unless we watch it through our skybox. This gives us a problem if and when we are recording more than one programme and also means that everyone in the house must now watch the same thing. We have an aerial in the loft and a dish on the wall. My postcode is IV40 8DB.

The Digital switchover of UK television transmissions was completed on 24th October 2012. So you could not have been receiving analogue TV after that date. So I don't follow your question, do you mean that digital TV reception from the Duncraig transmitter (a 'Freeview Lite' service) has failed? I suggest checking the Reception Map, Terrain Plot, etc alongside your question above. Judging by the large solid hill between you and Duncraig, I'd suggest you would be better served by a satellite service, either FreeSat or Sky (paid for by subscription).

Thanks for that, Mike. Up until 2 or 3 weeks ago I had been able to get what I had thought was analogue channels (BBC1, BBC2, ITV, CH4 BBCAlba etc)by pressing the source AV button on the TV remote and this took me away from the Sky box. Now I can only get one channel on any TV in the house and this changes to whatever I am watching on Sky. Incidentally, because of our position, we have always received our terrestrial channels from Skriaig near Portree. We can see the mast from the house on a clear day.
Would I still need a satellite service and does this then mean that every TV would then need to be watching whatever the Sky is tuned in to?
Regards,
Bertie.

Bertie: BBC ALBA has only ever been available on Freeview. You must have a Freeview tuner in, or accessible by, your TV somewhere.

You probably need to press the Source/AV button repeatedly until you get back to the Freeview tuner - this will probably be labelled 'Digital' or 'DTT', unless it's an external box in which case it could be AV1, AV2, etc. On some TVs you press Source/AV then scroll up or down to select a different source, or press the coloured buttons.

The behaviour you're seeing with the Sky box is because it contains an RF Modulator - a component that converts its output to an analogue TV signal that can be tuned in, as if it were coming from a transmitter. This is really a legacy of old TVs that could only tune into over-the-air transmissions, and didn't have any other inputs. Now that analogue TV transmission has been switched off, it will be the only thing that the TV's analogue tuner can find.

There have been some changes in the frequencies used in the north of Scotland in the last few weeks, to free up the highest frequencies for mobile phone services ('4G'). However, no changes were made at Skriaig, so this shouldn't have affected you.

Mike Dimmick: Many thanks to both yourself and Mike P for your help. I have now sorted the problem and I must admit I feel rather a fool. When I checked the aerial it had come out of the back of the feed in and when I put it back I then found I had reception as before. I have quite a complicated system of aerial feeds at the back of my TV to give me reception in other rooms throughout the house. Anyway all is now OK and once again I thank you for your help.
Regards,
Bertie.

Corsham

Most evenings i loose the itv channels, sometimes i get the blue screen says no signal is being received but BBC works. I have freeview tv plus a recording box - both are the same. I live in Corsham , this evening the signal disappeared just after 8pm, but BBC still working. I've tried resetting both box and tv, and that only succeeded in loosing channels like itv+1, dave, etc. Any suggestions gratefully received.

kirstine selman: Where is your aerial pointing?

The Corsham relay transmitter is a stone's throw away on Southerwicks so ITV could be tuning to that (if it's Mendip @ 235 degrees to which your aerial faces).

kirstine selman: The signal strength screen should tell you which transmitter you are tuned to by way of the tuned UHF channel (frequency).

For ITV, Mendip is on C54 and Corsham is on C46.

For BBC, Mendip is on C49 and Corsham broadcasts on C40 and C50 (according to Digital UK).

Is anyone else experiencing the same EPG issues as July again? Mine's gone down literally 20 minutes ago with exactly the same issues.
