I missed this bit.
TV3's sister station is e3. I am unsure if TG4 will only be available in high definition but I suspect it will.

sam: This could suggest that the signal you are receiving from the high powered Clermont Carn transmitter is overloading the input of your receiver.
Try a test by checking the result of using a short length of wire (about 5 feet or so) connected into your boxes aerial socket rather than the loft aerial, the test only being applicable as far as the reception of RTE programmes are concerned.

sam: Meant Divis "not" Clermont Carn! However, a much better assessment of your situation could be made if you can provide a more precise location, this in the form of a post code or one from somewhere nearby, e.g: a post office etc.

This is Shirley in ballymena. I removed the TV ariel from the DVD recorder and connected it directly to the TV. Then I re-tuned and it worked. I now have hundreds of channels, all working including radio. I even have 3 RTE channels which I did'nt have before. Tomorrow I can figure out how to connect the DVD and get it working.
This just seems strange to have to connect your TV/DVD in a different way but if it works who cares.
I am writing this in case it helps someone else because it has been driving me mad for 2 days.
Good luck.

Shirley: Just for curiosities sake, was the DVD a DVD recorder? If it was, did it have another lead from the DVD to the TV's aerial socket?

<this means that all RTE stations will over the next few months will no longer be available in standard definition>
They never were Kieran, unless you had a TV or STB that could receive MPEG 4 transmissions, and they weren't very common up here.

PJH It is puzzling how you are querying a post of five to six months ago!
From the inception of digital from the Clermont Carn transmitter RTE One was in standard definition, RTE Two was in high definition and TG4, RTE News Now was in standard definition. Earlier this year when 2rn (the transmission arm of RTE) brought on the second multiplex on UHF Channel 56 RTE One became available in high definition and in recent months RTE One in standard definition has been removed (from what I can see on my main receiver) although RTE One + 1 is still being broadcasted in standard definition. Without checking now I think RTE Jr. is still in standard definition. 2rn also transmit TV3 and 3e but I am unaware of any plans to only have their programming only available in high definition.
I find this site of interest: Have a read at this website: www.daltontv.ie - SAORVIEW re-scan final phase

Just a quick note to say that UTV Ireland have started transmitting a test picture on UHF Channel 56. You may have to renumber the channel number as I found it to be on 828.
