To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

PHIL BLACK: The transmitter referred to is not connected with your Freeview reception, which in your location can be from either Blackhill or Craigkelly.

However, if you are using any form of booster in line with the aerial then this has possibly been damaged by high statically charged rain, that said only applying if you are using an outdoor aerial, but should it apply then try bypassing the booster.

If on the other hand no booster is being used in line then try completely resetting your TV by carrying out a "factory reset" procedure, this also being known as "first time installation" or "default setting".

Hi have just replaced my goodmans freeview box as it was playing up that said I can get all the channels .the new one is also a goodmans but can't get lots of the channels .
I did as you recommended above but made no differance .plugged old one back in and all channels are there .
Do you think it's a faulty box?

Thanks Jane

Jane padgett: The Goodmans box is a bit pants (I know, I've got one), and one of its problems is that it scans starting at the lowest RF number and going on from there. Have a look at your home to mast plot and Digital UK coverage. Winter Hill (which should give you a great reception, is on channel 50. Haslingden (which only 15 degress away from Winter Hill and is on 26) & Birch Vale are lite transmitters and it should pick them up first. If you've only relatively few channels, thats probably whats happened, but it could be that your getting Moel y Parc, which is on 47 (and is going to be a lousy signal).

Check which transmitter your on. The Goodmans wont tell you the transmitter name, just which region it is (Waltahm isn't Waltham, its East Midlands, for instance). A good clue is the name of the local BBC news. Winter Hill is BBC North West Winter Hill (Bolton, England) Full Freeview transmitter | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice

Its unlikely to be a faulty box, just not a very good one, since your cant manually tune it. JB38's trick is to leave the aerial lead out for about the first 30% of the scan, which gets its past the ones you dont want. If you get it, dont retune!

The good news is that when you get a new TV, which Freeview HD built in, it should pick everything up automoatcially, and you can manually tune it.

My Sony RDR HXD 560 is picking up radio channels, but only for 2 to 3 seconds. After that the on-screen picture catches up, and knocks the radio off. Occasionally - it puts the BBC 1 sound out instead of the radio. I've done a full factory re-set and re-tune. Any more ideas?

ben corfueld: Have you checked that your TV is using the Freeview tuner? Sometimes you can accidently switch back to the analogue tuner.
Check that the remote isn't stuck. Frankly, you should seldom need to bring up the menu for scanning new channels, it should do it automatically.

Hi , I have a BUSH freeveiw play, record and pause box.
I have only recorded 4 things , total of approx 8 hours but now it's saying I have reached capacity.
When I look at the library page it says the majority of space is taken up by HDD information ( reserved and highlighted yellow ) and my recorded section in red is only about 1/6th of overall total space .
Can I delete the 'reserved HDD information' to make more recording space.
Thanks
