My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

donald : Re: your latter comment, the problem could be caused by either, especially if engineering work is being carried out at the station that covers your area, unable to check if it is or not unless your location is known, i.e: your post code or one from somewhere nearby such as a shop / Post Office.
But though you should always try to avoid retuning your box, because if the problem is connected with engineering work being carried out at the transmitter, retuning the box will delete everything stored in the tuner the instant you press search or scan etc, but with the tuner being unable to load the channels back into its memory unless a good quality signal is being received, which it might not be!
The next time the box freezes, just switch its power supply off for about 20 seconds or so before powering it up again, as the programme channels will (or should) still be accessible.
Further advice dependent on feedback, but it would be of interest to know the brand / model of the box in question?

I live in Lytham St Annes. Should I be able to receive BBC4 HD and Talking Pictures TV on my Panasonic HD television?

Andrew: Probably, yes. I say "probably" because there are never guarantees of reception. However, you might require your aerial replacing with a wideband model, if it's a Group C/D.
I'm not familiar with the area. It looks flat which means a good view of Winter Hill, which is good.
Group C/D is the top third of the band of frequencies used for TV. Winter Hill has always used these, for analogue and all digital up to now. The two new quasi-national HD multiplexes, COM7 (which carries BBC Four HD and Talking Pictures TV) and COM8, are on Group A channels which is the bottom third of the band. The sensitivity of Group C/D aerials will be down on Group A channels (with respect to sensitivity on C/D channels).
Use the manual tuning function to see what reception is like on the two channels. A tip is to enter/select the UHF channel number but do not press the button to scan/add services as in this state your receiver will likely act as a signal meter.
For Winter Hill:
COM7 - C31 (554MHz)
COM8 - C37 (602MHz)
On the manual tuning screen if there is an option for signal mode DVB-T or DVB-T2 then you need to select the latter in both instances.

Liz sargeant : As no engineering work is being carried out at the Nant-Y-Moel transmitter, the transmission failure comes into the category of being an unexpected fault. Times for resumption of service being impossible to forecast as it all depends on the reason for the failure, as it could even be down to failure of the mains power supply to the station, rather than the actual transmitter.

Liz sargeant : In addition to that said. I should also have added "not" to be tempted to carry out a retune on your TV whilst the signal is down, as all this will do is to delete everything stored in your tuner, the result of this action being that you will not know when the signal has returned without having to carry out a series of further retunes, whereas reception would have returned of its own accord without anything being done.

Dave Lindsay: I tried manual tuning but did not work. The signal was non existent. It turned out water had got into the aerial/cable. When they were replaced and a booster plugged in I could receive the missing channels. Thanks again.

Live in Streetly Sutton Coldfield, unable to get new channel 81. TVs are HD ready with built in Freeview. Have retuned twice without success using digital auto tuning. Any ideas?

Carol: HD ready TV's are not (in most cases) capable of receiving HD transmissions, as they are only fitted with DVB-T tuners, DVB-T2 being required for the reception of Freeview HD transmissions, EPG81 being transmitted by the COM7 multiplex (C33) which is an HD transmitter.
You can easily check if your TV or box is capable of receiving HD transmissions by selecting either EPG 101 (BBC1HD) or EPG 103 (ITV1HD)
