My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Now Yesterday has disappeared! No more Time Team. It's a Freeview meltdown! What aren't we being told? Things have gone to heck over this past week. MK17 8 area. Sandy Heath transmitter. Signal strength is good but quality has gone for a Burton. Loads of Channels on 1 or 2 in terms of signal quality. Can you explain this? Have 'updates' rendered my TV obsolete?

MikeB: Thanks for this glimmer of hope Mike! We'll see, come the colder weather. It's the way the signal quality, on certain stations varies so wildly that fascinates me. Maybe atmospheric conditions are the answer.

Another thing that fascinates me is how selective this break up of signal quality is. All BBC and Ch4 Ch5 Are fine as is E4. However: Yesterday, Dave E4+1 and 4Music are now all unwatchable, with a signal quality of 1-0. Something has changed at their end but What?

Paul:
Nothing has changed at the transmitter or studio 'end'. It's all symptomatic of the temperature inversion which results in variable attenuation of some signals or unusually long distance transmission of other signals. Some of the latter may well be radiating from abroad on same or similar frequencies to the services you want to watch. There is nothing anyone can do about this perfectly natural event that has affected TV transmissions since we started using UHF.
Please do NOT try to retune your equipment whilst this weather phenomenon is prevalent. If the weather cools as predicted by some then it is likely to resolve the issues.

Annette Barnes : A post code is really required for queries of this nature, however, on the assumption that you normally receive ITV from Winter Hill's PSB2 transmitter on Mux C59, due to a number of adverse reception reports from said station, your retune has possibly picked up ITV from Wenvoe on Mux C44, the source of ITV Wales.
Although "manually" tuning in each of the 12 Mux channels used by Winter Hill is a guaranteed way of resolving the problem, your best policy would be to try carrying out a further few retunes in the hope that the problem would correct itself during one of them.
If though it doesn't, then Winter Hills Mux channels are as follows/
C50 (BBC) / C59 (ITV) / C54 (PSB2 HD) /C58 (ITV3 etc) / C49 (COM5) / C55 (COM6) / C31 (COM7) / C37 (COM8) / C56 (LM-LL-LPR) / C57 (GIM)
Dependant on location, you may not receive C56 or C57.

Annette Barnes : Correction. On the latter list of channels, C54 is PSB3 HD, not PSB2.
