Technical changes to Freesat channels, 2nd-10th October 2013
Here is the answer from Freesat help:
From Wednesday 2nd October to Thursday 10 October, a series of technical changes are happening to the satellite transponders that broadcast some of the channels on Freesat.
If you encounter channels missing from your TV guide, put your Freesat box or Freesat TV into standby for 30 seconds and then switch it back on again. This should see everything restored; If this does not work you will need to do a quick "Freesat channel scan". Instructions for this can be found in your product manual (see Freesat product manuals - find and download replacement user manuals for your Freesat box), or give us a call on 0845 313 0051 and weââ¬â¢ll be happy to help.
If you are doing a manual Freesat channel scan, itââ¬â¢s worth making a note of your scheduled recordings and resetting them once the scan is complete to be sure you wonââ¬â¢t miss out.

For several weeks now IrishTV Channel 400 on Freesat has been unwatchable. The picture breaks up most of the time. One night this week the reception was perfect but it had gone back to unwatchable tonight. What can I do to remedy this problem?

I have a Panasonic TV with freesat tuner. Some HD channels including BBC2 channel 102 come up with 'no signal' and retuning does not clear the problem. Other HD channels - BBC3 & 4 are ok. Panasonic advised to retune with the dish disconnected in order to clear the stored tunings but the tv will not do this, there must be a signal and there is no manual tuning option. have you any ideas?

John Whittaker:
The model number of the set will be essential to help get this sorted.

John Whittaker: Although the model number of your TV is undeniably of considerable assistance, but problems of the nature described, are in most cases resolved by returning the TV to its shipping condition rather than just retuning it.
The usual procedure on Panasonic's being. Press: Menu - Set up - Shipping condition seen in the extension of the set up menu list, or alternatively (dependant on model) in the menu displayed on pressing "Set up".
If though, neither of the two apply, then as said by MikeP, a model number is indeed essential.

The Panasonic model number is TX-32LZD81
I tried returning it to Shipping Condition. When turned back on it immediately went into automatic tune which it completed very quickly as though it had not deleted to old settings.
Thanks for your help.

John Whittaker: If the problem was not resolved after having carried out the "return to shipping condition" procedure, then it could possibly be caused by water having entered the "F" connector screwed into the LNB, as your Freesat tuner sends control signals (voltage and tone) to the LNB for both polarity and band switching purposes, water contamination inside the connector shorting out these control signals.
In order to get an idea of whether this is likely to apply or not, can you receive the following programme guide listing numbers.
BBC1HD (108) - BBC3 HD (106) - BBC4 HD (107) - Ch4 HD (126), two of these channels being on different transponders and one on a different polarity.

John Whittaker : In addition to that said. Re test channels listed in my previous posting, please ignore and replace with the undermentioned, as these will test out the V and H polarity switching of the LNB on both high and low bands.
BBC2 HD - BBC news HD (200) - Pick TV (144) - QVC (800)

Thanks for your response. The only channel of those listed above that works is BBC4 HD(107). Other HD channels that work are ITV HD (119) and BBC News HD (200). Some months ago I replaced the dish and LAN as the old one rusted and broke away from it's moorings but only cut back the cable before reconnecting the lead. The old set up was giving problems before that time so I cannot say that the problem started with the replacement.
I hope this helps.

John Whittaker: Sorry for the slight delay in replying. However, these results indicate that you are only receiving channels in what's known as the low band, the fact of the two that are received being on different polarities, at least proving that the LNB's 13/18 volts polarity switching command from your TV is OK. On the other hand though, no high band channels being received can be caused by the 22Khz band switching tone having been shorted out by water having entered the LNB's "F" connector.
As a matter of interest, what strength and quality indications do you get on the channels that are received?, quality having to be either 100% or as near as possible to it irrespective of strength, as anything lower, such as caused by the dish being slightly out of alignment, could have an adverse effect on the data stored by the Freesat default transponder on 11.428Ghz H / 27500 (the heart of the system), this possibly being the reason for the limited number of channels received, including none of operating in the high band.
By the way, do you still have the manual for the TV? the only reason for enquiring being that instructions could be given with reference to particular page numbers.

On BBC News HD 200 the Signal Quality bar is showing about 70% green and the Signal Strength 100% grey.
Perhaps I should get outside when the rain stops, replace the lead and try realigning the dish to improve signal .
I do still have the TV manual.
Thanks again for your continued help.
