Simon Cole: BBC Four HD moved to COM8 earlier this year, it certainly didn't change last week. COM8 changed frequency at Rowridge on 21st March and is now on UHF channel 56 but there haven't been any further changes since then. If you were able to receive BBC Four HD a week ago then you most likely already have a wideband aerial and you should be loose for a fault with your aerial systems (loose or damaged cables etc).

Had to buy a new TV a few weeks aga and got HD set as I like wildlife and nature Programmes as well as gardening and travel.
I was gutted to find that here in Swansea we can't get BBC4 HD
Why are we being excluded?
We pay the same licence fee

I cannot remember when I last watched a BBC 4 HD programme but it cannot be more than a couple of weeks ago.

I have checked with a friend TV nearby and they cannot get BBC 4 HD either. I have also read from other forums on this site that lots pf people in the south can no longer get BBC4 HD starting from a few days ago, looks like when the frequency Changed.

I have tried manual tuning with no effect. Signal strength 0.

I can understand, technically, why I can no longer get this channel but I do not understand the commercial/political/practical reason for moving this main stream channel to somewhere nobody can receive it. We should be moving channels to HD, not away from it.

Hi - my local transmitter is Sutton Coldfield. BBC four HD is no longer received by my Tv server (PC used as a PVR) which uses a TBS6284 pci card for digital terrestrial reception (it has 4 tuners built in) . However my LG TV is receiving BBC four HD and is connected to the same loft antenna.

The tuners are daisy chained from antenna to PCI card tuner 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then to the LG TV.

The antenna is a log periodic wideband and all the cabling connections plugs and sockets are all sound.

The reception of BBC 4 HD on the LG TV is brilliant along with all the other HD channels - all rock solid.

The only problem is the PCI tuner card.

I am about 7km from the transmitter and have never had any problems receiving any channels until the recent changes.

Any ideas?

many thanks

John

Do I need a new pci card for my server? Any ideas would be appreciated.

For some weeks now BBC4 HD on channel 106 has broken up occasionally. Last night it was worse than usual - checking the signal strength it varied from 0 to 25%. So I did a retune on my YouView box, and BBC4 HD is no longer there at all!
When the change to digital tv occurred I bought a new wideband aerial. What can I do now as this is a major channel for my interests? All other channels have good strength, mostly 98 - 100%.
Thanks,
Roger, Plymouth (Caradon transmitter)

Roger: 98% signal strength is too high, the tuner is being deafened because it is being shouted at. Take a look at the article title "Too much of a good thing" on this website and try an attenuator.

Keith Lindop: Glasgow West transmitter has never broadcast BBC Four HD. The only transmitter broadcasting BBC Four HD which covers Glasgow is Black Hill. If you cannot restore BBC Four HD by manual tuning on UHF channel 35 then you should contact whoever is responsible for managing your communal aerial system and ask them to investigate.

Glasgow

Many Thanks for the info, I really wasn't sure it was Glasgow West I was on, I only saw it covered my area on the transmitter map, I have tried to manual tune channel 35 as you suggested and I get nothing at all, as its Glasgow Housing Association thats administers the repairs and tv and sat feed, even though my apartment is a private one, I pay a fee for the management of the block. I will take it up with them.

Many thanks again and the prompt reply.

Regards

Keith

MikeB: I didn't say its not there but it does seem to have been put where no-one can see it.

It is like buying a copy of the guardian only to find that all the pages are blank.

I did get a message on my receivers last night to re-tune today so I will see what that does.

Curiouser and Curiouser.

I have now re-tuned two receivers,an HD TV and a PVR, and both devices has lost all but the main 5 HD channels, 101 to 105.

Whilst the PVR does include them in the Guide and gives an accurate listing for these channels the TV does not list them at all in the guide.

Whilst I can live without QVC HD I cannot live without BBC 4 HD!

What is going on?
