To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

We are currently having problems with a new TV, just installed, (Logik) We have three TV's on one aerial and all worked . Channel 48 operates on 690, which is very near 700, and on the new TV we are getting bad reception, actually the signal says 0 for strength. However the two original TV's work fine, and the signal strength on both is good. Can I move the programmes from 48 to a lower frequency, as we like Talking Pics and Yesterday. . . . . . .

Barry Hardwick: You don't say how the one aerial is fed to the three TV sets.
Is there an active splitter, a passive splitter or what?
If you don't have an active splitter I would suggest you try swapping the sets round,
in case one of the feeds from the aerial may have a better signal strength.
It sounds as though your new TV set has less gain/sensitivity than the other two.
Logik is a Curry's own brand is it not? Could be a more basic specification.

There is of course the potential issue of worn cabling. Have you tried re-teminating the aerial lead to the poorly performing TV?

If these common sense suggestions fail, you are in the lap of the techno gods who advise on here.

Barry Hardwick:

Yes C48 is as you say very close to 700MHz however this is of no consequence at present. The 700MHz band hasn't even been fully cleared yet, it hasn't been auctioned yet and there are no mobile transmission any where near C48. It will be some considerable time before the frequencies are used, even then you'd need a mobile mast using such frequencies to be very close to you.

David Warner has given a more likely explanation of the reasons you may be having this problem as the Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker suggests that you should have no problems receiving COM6/ArqB from Sandy Heath at your location.
It would be wise to check that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction and that your downlead looks undamaged (especially if it is old). Also check all your coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads are a common problem, try swapping/changing them. See what signal strengths and quality you are getting for the other multiplexes (groups of channels) shown in your TV's tuning section.
Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just an individual or several multiplexes.
Also, just in case, make sure you don't have any HDMI leads near unscreened/poorly screened flyleads/aerial leads as they can cause interference but not normally to channels as low as C48.

Hi , I can't seem to pickup channels on 55 for some reason. It seems to change from time to time. My transmitter is the Belmont. The channels come and go with retuning. I have had a tv man out who said that the signal was fine. Is it because of the moving of frequencies or is there another problem.

Paul Reuben Bruney:

We really need a full postcode to look at the predicted reception at your location. If your TV man say that the signal was fine, was he talking about the signal on UHF C55, or just the signal in general (on the others)?
If he was a TV man as opposed to an aerial man I'm surprised he couldn't identify the problem.

One thing you could check is make sure that you don't have any HDMI leads close to your aerial cable or flyleads (depending on what other equipment, such as PVRs you have). Aerial leads or flyleads that aren't double screened can sometimes get interference from HDMI cables and it can interfere with C55 in particular.
Also check your flyleads are OK, some end up with broken connections at the back of the plugs and that can affect some multiplexes but not always all!

Just bought Samsung Smart UHD TV to replace old Sony. Loft aerial is XB10A. Can't get signal for some HD channels such as Quest HD and others - all Channel 55, Frequency 746000. We should be in a strong signal area from Darvel transmitter (10 miles away).
We have another Samsung HD TV, Log type aerial in another loft, which receives all these channels no problem.
I've had conflicting advice from aerial suppliers - one says the XB10A aerial might be giving too strong a signal; another says this aerial won't pick up these channels (MUX 8 or something?)
Any help appreciated.

John:

Well whoever said the XB10A would give too strong a signal for COM7 (on UHF C55) was talking out of their rear end.
The XB10A is a Group A aerial (the A on the end) and Group A aerials are designed to work over channels 21-37 although this one should give adequate performance upto about C42 (according to https://www.aerialsandtv.….png ), gain drops off very quickly around there.
It might give too strong a signal for C21-C37 if it weren't in a loft, but loft aerials lose signal through the roof, and reception can become a bit of a black art, but as you've had loft aerials giving good reception on the others, I doubt you'll have much of an issue.

To get C55, technically you need a Group T or Wideband but I doubt you'd get an XB10T or XB10WB these days, I don't think anyone makes them anymore. However, some Group K aerial have adequate gain at C55. That close to Darvel, a Yagi18K from ATV according to them would have adequate gain as would the XB10K see https://www.aerialsandtv.….png

It depends how much room you have in your loft, the Yagi 18K is 5ft 9" long,17" high, 13" wide, whereas the XB10K is 5ft long, 27" high, 23" wide. The Yagi is a few quid cheaper, your choice.

Since 6th August and the really hot weather all my tv channels have been blocking. I am a housing association tenant and tried to raise a repair job for my aerial. I was told that is not their responsibility. How do I check the transmitters in my area are working with no problems as I cannot afford to call out a private repair contractor first, being a pensioner. I do not know who to ask or where to get information about my problem with reception, and how can any transmitter problems be reported please.I

I only have one freeview tv.

Many thanks

Irene Edwards: It would help if you told us where you are (please provide a full postcode) then we can see which transmitter you are predicted to receive and whether there have been any recent faults or engineering work etc. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV?

Been having problems since end of March on Caldbeck transmitter (we at CA8 postcode) have tried everything but no success - been in touch with bbc and also had a 4g device to prevent possible interference. Same problem last year but it resolved after a couple of months but not this time. Any ideas most welcome.
