Michael H Greenland:

Please carefully check your aerial cables and connections. IUnpli=ug all xcoaxial pligs/sockets and then refit. That will clear any corrosion/oxidation from the contacts which is a common cause of the problems you report.

Llanddona has multiplexes named PSB1, PSB2, PSB3, COM3 (SDN), COM5 (ARQA) and COM6 (ARQB). This is exactly the same naming scheme as at Winter Hill, but the muiltiplexes are on different frequencies so as to avoid interfering with each other or other transmssions in the same reception area. The naming of a multiplex is for convenience mainly but all full Freeview transmitters carry all six multiplexes and a further 30 main transmitters also carry the COM7 and COM8 multiplexes. In addition there are a large number of Freeview Light transmitters that carry the 3 PSB services only. Apart from regional variations, for local news for example, the programming is largely the same for all national programming.

There is no fault at the transmitter so you are paying for a service you would be getting were it not for a problem with your equipment. Please check all your aerial cables and connections, unplug any coaxial plugs/sockets and refit them. Then check what programmes you get. It does not help to have retuned, all that has done is removed all the correctly tuned channels you wanted. You will need to check that each of the multoplexes broadcast from the Sandy Heath transmitter are being received correctly and at what signal strength. The multiplexes are on channels 24, 21, 27, 51, 35, 48, 55 and 56.

As you have not given a full post code, as requested, we cannot check the reception conditions at your location.

You need to have a wideband aerial fitted in place of your old aerial as there havce been significant frequency changes this year that makes it impossible for your current aerial to receive all the possible programmes. Avoid being 'conned' by the contractor into having a 'digital' aerial fitted as there is no such thing. Any good quality wideband UHF aerial is capable of receiving the signals broadcast from the transmitter.

Further, as you are just 1 km away from the Horndean transmitter you may have too much signal. If you go to the manual tuning page on your TV settings, you will see what the signal strength is for each multiplex - DO NOT RETUNE. Ideally you need the strength to be between 60% and 85%, less or more will give problems. For more information search this website for 'too much of a good thing'. That will advise you how to resolve having too much signal strength.

To give a full answer we need you to provide a full post code so we can examine the reception conditions at your particular location, a partail pst code will not help.

Have you had your aerial changed at all in the last year or so? At many of the transmitters the frequencies used have been changed to prepare for the introduction of 5G services, which requires all Freeview transmissions to be below the 700 MHz point. That usually means having to have a different aerial that before so it is now best to have a wideband aerial in use so it can get all the available signals. Without knowing which of the over 1100 transmitters you are using we cannot tell what frequencies are in use in your area, hence the need for the full post code.

Retuning was the worst thing you could do as it will never solve the problem you report.

You need to investigate what equipment comes on and goers off at the times stated. Also ask your neighbours who also use Freeview if they have the same problem. If they don't then the source is likely to be in your property.

All free TV channels in the UK

Ian:

If you look at Retro TV | free and easy as there is no channel number provided that indicates that is probably not available on Freeview.
